We often get the same questions regarding the same things. The most often asked questions are asked and answered in this section.
  • How do I download cars/tracks/utils
To download anything from this site is very simple. Click on the left menu on the menu item that you want to download (ex.: If you want to download NFS4 cars, click on the "cars" in the left menu under the image "NFS4".). Then a new page will load where you choose the item you would like to download and click on the "Download" text or image. Your browser will then ask you where to save the file - you save it somewhere on your hard drive.

  • How do I install cars/tracks/utils
Most of the files you can download from this site are compressed with a program called Winzip. You will need decompressing software for that.  You may already have it installed. If you do not, there are several available, the best in my opinion is Winzip
You then doubleclick on the zip file and in it there should be a readme file in which all the instructions should be written.

If the readme file is not present:
    NFS4 Cars
: In the zip file there should be the car.viv file. Extract the file to a unique folder with 4 characters inside the NFS4/gamedata/carmodels dir. (example: if you download Mercedes Benz C320, extract it to nfs4/gamedata/carmodels/c320 dir). In some files there may be a qfs file. Extract this file to nfs4/fedata/vidwall folder.
NFSPU Cars: I wrote a tutorial about that. It is available in our tutorials page.

  • What's the difference between Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed and Need for Speed Porsche 2000
There is no difference at all. The first is the US version and the second is the european version.

  • Need For Speed IV giving me exception caught errors when starting the game. Why?
This is because some of the downloaded cars have the same number. Download the NFS:HS Serial Number Editor and see which cars have the same serial numbers and repair it.
You must also not have more than 50 cars installed. If you do, then you'll have to remove some.

  • How to get NFSPU to run in WinXP
First of all you have to change it to run in compatibility mode. If you're getting bad performances (bad framerate, graphics), then you should delete the gimme.dll which is located in NFSPU directory on your hard drive.¾
If it still doesn't work try downloading the latest drivers for your graphics card and be sure to patch the game to 3.5. There are lots of answers listed in our forum topic "NFSPU in WinXP".

  • How do I finish mission xx in NFSPU factory driver mode?
I wrote a nice tutorial that covers all missions except the first 3 with description of what to do and replays. Visit our tutorials page.

  • How do I take a screenshot in the game?
Just press alt-p and the screenshot should be saved at your desktop (NFS4) or in the Savedata folder (NFSPU). In NFSPU this works only when racing, to take a screenshot in the garage press the printscreen key.

  • I have a video card which was made after the release of NFS4 and I can't enable direct 3d support.
Try the NFSHS Fast Graphics Patch, found on our page.
