You need to beat the track records in speed challenges and drags. If you do, it'll come up with 'TRACK RECORD BROKEN' when you finish the race.

Slightly pointless idea: a mode where you can roam about on foot and possibly place ramps etc on the tracks to make impromptu shortcuts? And/or a Carpark level where you can make your own autocross-esque tracks, cosidering HL2 already has the gravity gun and proper physics for breakable objects?

I could probably cut it down a bit, and my workflow probably isn't the best. I just used this as a reference, and the cartoonyness is probably to do with the fact that the gauges are white. Oh, and it's an SVG I made in Inkscape so someone could probably make it look a bit more realistic in Photosho...

Oooh, another thing. Are you planning to have a different HUD speedo and tach for every car, TDU/PGR4 style, or just use a generic one? Hmmm, I wonder what the free edition of the dlc (with only 1 car, but with all the models included so as to make online playable with the new DLC) will contain. Probably the M3.

The shader models are specific to the video cards themselves. ATi x1xxx and up and nVidia 7xxx and up have shader model 3.

First is using shader model 2 (or world lighting and shadows are turned off), second is shader model 3 with world lighting and shadows on.
