Re: Computer Help Thread

Okay, this is just gay... My computer is running extremely slow for some reason, from startup to shutdown, almost 90% of the time no matter what percentage of the CPU and RAM are being used. If I try to run something like winRAR, even though it only uses 30% (even distributed among all four cores,)...

I'm familiar w/ HardOCP ... And if you could please tell me how it would be possible to 100% accurately repeat the same gameplay and action from one benchmark to the next using HardOCP's method, I'd love to hear it ... In addition, basing your opinion off just 1 website is not a good practice. You n...

Re: Nvidia GeForce Vs. ATI Radeon

Wrong, read this: Performance versus the Radeon HD 3870 The BFGTech GeForce 9600 GT OC’s gaming performance is very interesting. The first thing to note is that in all three games tested the 9600 GT was in fact faster than AMD’s fastest single GPU video card, the ATI Radeon HD 3870. At this pri...

Re: Computer Help Thread

On the laptop side of things, CPU vs. CPU, the Core 2 Duo consumes less energy and generates less heat than an equivalent-performing Turion64 X2. However, because AMD has many items built-into the CPU (like the integrated memory controller, for example) that Intel places in the Northbridge or Southb...

Re: Videocards.. which to buy and whatnot.. simply videocards!

I'd get the 512mb 8800 GT,imo its abit more extra than a 9600 GT and its better. ZOMG, the 9800 GX2 is out xD, 50% faster than a 8800 ULTRA Z0mg I'll agree w/ that ... The 8800 GT isn't much (if any) more these days than either of those cards ... although I find the reference fans of both the 9600 ...

Re: radeon hd2400 v/s nvidia 8400 need urgent help!

They both suck and aren't worth anything unless you're using it for HTPC (in which case get the HD 2400 for the HDMI support, slightly better video decoding, and lower power consumption). The 8600/HD 2600 are definitely a lot better, but I would still say they're a waste of money for games, though. ...

Re: Nvidia GeForce Vs. ATI Radeon

The HD 3870 was faster on average than the 9600 GT in every review I've seen. Not by much (5-10%), but still ...

Even if they were the same performance, I'd probably get the HD 3870 just because its fan is much less annoying.

Re: Buying new PC, need approval

Well, keep in mind that the 256 MB 8800 GT is quite a bit less powerful than the 512 MB 8800 GT due to slower clocks. If you could get the 8800 GT 512 MB or HD 3870 for a similar price, I'd obviously go that route. However, these are the current prices in Canada (according to Pricecanada.com) HD 385...

Re: Videocards.. which to buy and whatnot.. simply videocards!

And if you look at comparison shots in Crysis with DX9 and DX10, you really won't notice a difference except maybe a LITTLE bit nicer trees and sun. There are also other differences that you notice while actually playing the game like water quality and texture maps are better in DX 10 ... I don't t...

Re: Videocards.. which to buy and whatnot.. simply videocards!

I think the HD 3870 X2 will be more impressive than the 9800 GX2, personally ... It's a better design, IMO, and judging by its preliminary benchmarks vs. how Nvidia has said the 9800 GX2 will perform, they should be pretty close in performance ... ATI is shipping their card at $450 and Nvidia's expe...

The Samsung uses one of 3 panels (designated by A, C, or S in the "panel lottery"): A = AU Optronics in Taiwan ... Considered the mid-grade panel. C = Chi Mei Optoelectronics in China ... Considered the low-grade panel. S = Samsung in Korea ... Considered the high-grade panel. The 3 panel...

Re: New monitor

I would avoid Dell's E-series like the plague, but most of Dell's Ultrasharp monitors are very good (i.e. 2407WFP), although there are certainly a few bad ones (i.e. 2407WFP-HC). The Asus uses a TN panel from Chi Mei Optoelectronics in China. The Samsung uses one of 3 panels (designated by A, C, or ...

Re: New monitor

The downsides to TN panels are mostly related to viewing angles and image quality. For gaming, it's generally not a huge issue and certainly cuts costs significantly (20" VA panels start at $400 CAD whereas 20" TN panels start at $200 CAD). Budget allowing, I would still advise a VA panel ...

Re: Videocards.. which to buy and whatnot.. simply videocards!

Both are pretty equal, in my experience. The 8800 GT has better driver support and performs better in older games, so I would probably give it the nod if the price is close. However, driver support will improve on the HD 3800 and both games play older games extremely well anyways, so several months ...
