Best sleeper car when stock?

Post by Evil Kid Weaselmush »

Just curious, what do you guys think is the best sleeper car when stock?

Ford Taurus SHO? (especially the 3rd gen. SHO!)
Buick Grand National?
Cadillac CTS-V or STS-V?
BMW M5?
Audi S4?
Oldsmobile Aurora?
Some Mercedes-Benz?
Volvo S60R?
Volkswagen Passat W8?
Volkswagen Phaeton?
Something else?

Cadillac CTS-V gets my vote, or the previous M5 (E39).

The older Phaetons were pretty sweet, plus few suspect a VW. :P

Audi RS6 avant- the old one, that is

Seriously. 480bhp, AWD, 8-pot brakes, all in an estate package.

The RS6 Avant really is a cool car, I do like the new version also, but the new one really looks the business, where the prev RS6 looks like a normal A6, only the trained eye knows it's not a normal A6

The E39 M5 is also still lovely, for most it's just a 5 series (or just a BMW in general) but IMO it looks pretty agressive but still stylish.

Good choices, I didn't even think about the RS6 Avant! Cool sleeper!

So, what about the Mercury Marauder? I forgot to list that one also.

When you put it that way, R32 GTR Vspec. Just replace "Porsche owner" with "Holden/Ford owner". And they look the shiz as well.

So does the R33 GT-R V-Spec, but hey, the R34 does too... jeez, you can say it about any of the three "real" GT-Rs (although the R34 GT-R is quite a bit less "sleeper"-like than the others).

Common a R35 does not look like it's just a normal car that you would use to go to work all day and take the family with on a holiday.... or go shopping with (daily stuff when you have kids.)

And everyone who sees the car will know it's a sports car.

a R32 GTR on the other hand... but then it's still a 2 door coupe.

Note though that the R32 V-Spec was the reason why V8 Supercars exists as a race between Fords and Holdens only XD.

199 R32 V-Specs got shipped to Australia, and a couple got entered in the V8 Supercars, although obviously it wasn't V8 Supercars back then. The R32 won 9 out of 11 races. It was then subsequently banned from the tournament.

True, but so will a Noble and they look brutally fast.

Theres far too much hype around the R35 to ever see it as a sleeper, even if it was subtly styled. Brabus are probably the kings of sleeper- the CLS Rocket, for example- 730bhp and 217mph from a 4 door executive car.

I'll have mine in black, please. With a 320CDi badge on the boot and diesel tailpipes.

It was hardly fast, though. Remember, it was racing a broken, automatic 115bhp early 80's Lancia and a 2 tonne 4-speed Mercedes.

Sleeper IS about the fastest. A sleeper is a car that looks ordinary and basic, but is extremely fast.
