The ULTIMATE Car vs Car *WEEK 3 - Rival of the Rallies*

Post by Carcrazy »

This week's competition is courtesy of Andre_Online:

Subaru Impreza WRX STI (And yes, it is STI now.)
Image

vs

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR
Image

**From now on, you can PM me with requests for the next week's competition. If no PM's are received by Saturday, I will select someone from the thread to choose two cars.**

Discuss.

First Post wrote:Okay, yeah, these things are getting annoying. Very annoying...

So, let's regulate it a little. We can keep the discussions in this single thread, and update the first post whenever we decide to change the two cars. I guess we can keep both cars up for a week then change it to the next pair.

So now we won't need loads and loads of new threads spamming up the forum, m'kay?

  • --Past Results--
    Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 (V-Spec II)
    vs
    Nissan GT-R (R35)

    JZA80 Supra
    vs.
    Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4.

BNR34 FTW - the R35 is less tunable (at least, for now) and the R34 looks sweet in Bayside Blue with the Nismo bodykit.

I disagree on the "less tunable" bit. Of course the SpecV is an example but then in terms of cosmetics at least (NetCarShow doesn't have any info on any of Wald's cars), there's the Wald GT-R:
http://www.netcarshow.com/wald/2008-nissan_gt-r/
One Aussie has even made one into a drag car.

And these two aren't a good comparison either. They're quite different apart from the signature Skyline "Stove-tops". In fact they don't even share the Skyline name, and the R35 uses a variation of the VQ-series V6 rather than an inline-6. All-in-all though I'd take the R35 because in essence it actually works out cheaper than the 34, with the 34 being a particularly rare car and all, and essentially unless you live in Japan it's much faster as stock.

It's not necessarily supposed to be a performance comparison. The two are brothers, (or rather, sisters,) whether you like it or not. IMO there will probably always be a dispute between people pulled one way as to which is better.

My vote goes to the R34, btw, as I forgot to post this earlier.

R35 FTW (just because IMO it looks cooler)

How about SL65 AMG vs 911 GT2 (not the best comparison, but still...)

I'll take the GT2, just for the kick. I want to drive a manual transmission car. Plus the GT2 is pretty modest-looking too as compared to the Merc. ;)

Um, sorry to say this but you're supposed to reply to THIS week's comparison  - as in, wait until Carcrazy posts the next one.

I still say that apart from the stovetops they aren't really related in any possible way.

Id take the BNR34 just for the fact I love the RB26 and have an addiction to boost.

I'm still absoutely and utterly convinced you aren't old enough to drive, given some of the utter drivel you've previously spouted in this forum.

Actually, if we are talking about the N1 block (which we may or may not be), the RB26 really is the superior engine. Although, yes, the VR38DETT has more horsepower when stock and larger displacement, this does not mean that it has a greater horsepower potential. Largely because of the existing tuning, the VR38 is already pretty high-strung, which means that tuning it farther is likely to be harder.

Plus, the R35 transmission craps out a lot more easily than the R34's Getrag six-speed manual.

There is also the fact that the R35 simply doesn't have as much tuning available yet. It's a new car on an almost entirely new engine, while the R34 was built on largely pre-existing architecture and it is ten years old now - meaning lots of parts have been developed.

And, of course, the R34 is marginally lighter and smaller, and it looks better (in my opinion).

Inline Six vs V6 looks comparison? Hell yeah the inline wins.

JUN is working on aftermarket internals for the R35, which projected maximum HP limits being around 1,000... so still not as much as the RB26 can handle.

And STAY ON TOPIC PEOPLE!

Between the JZA80 Supra and Z16A 3000GT VR-4:

The 3000GT looks awesome and handles pretty well, but again my vote goes to the inline-six (Supra JZA80). Much awesomer maximum power figures - assuming, of course, that you are talking about the Supra Turbo.

So I vote Supra.

Here's one no one thought about:

Subaru Legacy 3.0R (BL) (or, if you want, 2.5GT)
or
Audi S4 (B7)

I actually brought up this comparison with no modifications in mind. We all know the monumental power figures the 2JZ can come up with when modified, but what about completely stock? My vote goes to the 3000GT based on looks, AWD and more power standard than the R34 V-Spec II.

RCD- that's absolutely no contest. Audi S4 any day, and quite rightly too. 360-odd bhp, proper, non-aggricultural AWD, proper brakes, proper suspention, better interior...yes a fair slab more cost, but still, you asked...

As for the main discussion point, aren't 3000GT's horrendously unreliable due to how little space is avaliable in the engine bay, poor cooling and a few other factors?

I thought it was something to do with the Turbos. For the reason of crappiness I choose the Supra

Okay, fine, S4 vs LGT isn't entirely a fair fight. And, the reason 3000GTs are seen as cr@p is almost entirely due to WEIGHT.

A better suggestion:
Toyota MR2 (SW20)
or
Honda S2000 (AP1)

I got told to change it, and then notified the thread through an edit. That's why I'm being patient with people doing it. =)
