SS00's "Built Not Bought" Bike Thread- New Bodywork!

Post by steelsnake00 »

I hated the Thundercat after a matter of weeks, and so flogged it as fast as possible and replaced it with a Triumph TT600- the first of the fuel injected 600cc sports bikes, as English as my knob and proper riot to ride. 170kg (light) and 106bhp (powerful for its engine size, even today). As I've got the BMW as an everyday slogger, and the Audi Avant as a poor-weather transport, I've decided that the TT is going to become a road legal track weapon. This is it's build thread.

As bought, the bike came essentially as standard. Mods so far include:
-EBC brake pads
-K&N airbox filter
-Home-bodged intercom system
-HID kit
-2003 TT600 software flash

And plenty of f**king crash damage from a previous owner.

On order/awaiting fitting:
-Race-spec lightweight FRP bodywork in white, black and blue
-Scorpion race-spec carbon exhaust
-Lightweight alloy sprocket

Further plans include:
-Cam regrind
-Homemade custom ram air intake
-Öhlins shocks
-Speed Triple 4-piston Brembo conversion with floating disks
-Rolling road remap
-Lightened and balanced crank, conrods and balancing shafts

Stripped down for the fitting of the HID kit and free-flowing air filter:

Carbon race exhaust- not yet fitted...

My mate used to have one of these in yellow, pretty sweet bike, but he sold it for an '07 GSX-R750 when they first came out.

I toyed with the idea of getting a bigger engine'd bike, but the BM is a 1200cc so I don't really need a big, powerful, torquey bike. What I want is no weight, low COG, 13krpm rev limits and a 1600rpm idle.

Got something a little bit special in the post today...

It's my lightweight bodywork. £240 for the bodywork complete with paint, it's lightweight fibreglass with an epoxy covering, sprayed just how I requested and ready to go on the bike.

Sorry the pictures are poor, I've been out on the lash tonight and not thought to get any pics beforehand. It's still in it's wrapping, but should be fitted prior to my mission to Germany.

The bodywork weighs roughly 1/3 of that of the standard moulded plastic, and needs its fitment holes drilling. Its going to be secured by race-style stainless steel motorsport 1/4 turn fasteners drilled through the standard bodywork holes. Should look pretty tasty.

The 'Ring is less than a week away...need some Triumph stickers plus a nice list of all the aftermarket parts to fill the black section at the bottom of the fairing. So far thats EBC, Scorpion Exhausts, Nissin, K&N and Öhlins. Will get them ordered tomorrow...

I gotz my lightweight bodywork on.

I'm off to Passau, on the German/Austrian border tomorrow. Hitting the 'Ring and the Alps on the way, should be gone for about a week, but have got my 3G laptop so will keep you all updated.

Bodywork is now on. I finished it at 9PM tonight so all the pictures are shiznit, but they give a basic jist of how the bike looks. Race exhaust is also on now, along with micro-mini indicators and new brake pads. Crash bungs were fitted yesterday, whilst I drilled out the holes for the bodywork.

Sorry for the crummy picture quality.

How much of a difference does the lightweight bodywork make? I'm guessing it's made from a different material?

I'm really looking into a motorcycle license since I've been rocking this 30 mph (More like 45 and afraid of cops) 6-speed moped of a mate, which basically is a severely underpowered motorcycle. Its lack of power is really forgiving so it's much easier to understand the basics of riding and shifting.

Looks like you're going on a proper trip. Do not kill yourself on the roads. :p

At a guess, the lightweight bodywork saves at LEAST 15kg over the standard bodywork. With the lightweight exhaust too, I'd say the bike had dipped under 150kg.

If I was into bikes that's where I'd be at :)
Though would be tempted by a Norton too ;)
