do carbon parts affect cars performance in nfsu2?

hey, i'm new here and have need for speed underground 2.

i've unlocked all the parts now, including carbon kits and wide body kits. when i use both pretty much all my car turns carbon. is this purely for aesthetic reasons or does it affect the car's performance? i imagine it will make the car lighter, therefore faster, but i may be wrong.
