Is there any code or tips to stop the computer from cheating its fool (And I cleaned up that adjective after 5 or so deletes) head off. I could go into specifics, but this board probably isn't 100 terabytes. I've dropped everything to stock except tires & NOS, and it's still easier to find an honest politician than to win a race. If I did'nt quit just before losing, my win percentage would be about 5 percent.
Any help, or am I totally effed?
(Deep cleasing breath)

Houngan, SuperRacer is right, it's practice that will win the day. Many people here have been through the game 10 times and more and trust us - with practice you often find yourself wondering where the AI went to... Hell, compared to some here I sure ain't anything special, but even I have lapped the AI in the odd race.
My only tip for you is to drop the difficulty level until you've really got the tracks down cold. There's no penalty for doing that, and no shame in it either. Only issue is you're paid less money, but there's ways to resolve a cashflow problem...
