Without a doubt, the AI. I have two words for the AI programming:

Complete Bull$#!~.

This may be the worst AI I've seen because reality takes no part. I have seen the AI cars broadside traffic going into a turn right beside me, and still be ahead of me coming out. I have been in 6th gear with nitrous...and losing time.
I could fill a whole page with this type of excrement, but I'm sure everyone has examples...which just proves my point.
I had an earlier post, and the advice I got was to run the track over & over. Well, if I have to race a track 300 times to win it once, the programming sucks.
Somebody please tell me how to hack into the game so I can turn off catchup in Underground Mode. Right now I don't care if I break the game or not.

yeah the catch-up is really annoying BUT it works both ways... if catch up wasnt on think about how much harder it would be to catch the leaders if you crash?? maybe the AI could have been desined a little bit better!

Exactly, but the programming isn't equal. I've been in races that I ended up further behind than when I started the lap, with clean sections. Yet the AI can make up 7 to 10 seconds in a single lap.
The catch-up feature makes sense, it's the AI programming that blows chunks.

sometimes the catch up is unreal.... yesterday I raced against Kurt (on of the Anoyinging caracters of Eddys gang) and I was doing 300 Km/h trought the water drain canal.... and he was 15 secs behind me when I drove in the canal.... before I was back out.... he was 5 seconds behind me.....

he catched up on me like I was standing still..... man I was doing 300... (185 MPH).....

BTW anyone ever tried to get 1 lap behind in the 7 lap... you will be behind them in 1 lap... (when they pass you (you get lapped) they go like 50 KMH (30MPH)..... lol

It's a way for races not to get too hard or too easy. But it's linked to the AI, which in underground mode, is terrible. It's the AI that does all the unrealistic bull that generates the above horrid examples.

Of course, if I scraped a jersey barrier at 175mph+, that side of the car would be gone, so total realism isn't desirable either.

Just wish the AI was programmed better...

yo guys get some revenge on t he ai, try my killing spree thing, 10lap circuit and just turn around and headon with them its hell of a fun and u find tons of glitches like i hit this supra so hard it got stuck into the road, couldnt come out, nose first into the ground, game didnt restart him so i tried heading on again and i used him like a ramp, daamn fun, by the way im doing this cause circuits gotten boring, best cars to hit,=lancer,mx5. u gota try it out.

Every time i play this races i get fustrated because KETCHUP(chach up),in every of this races is f****ng MATT(i would kill him with BIG F****NG SMILE ON MY FACE).That guy really like to use ketchup until i crash,and then i get fustrated!Huh!

Just quickly; I've finally completed underground mode!! The 7 lap race was really hard but I took a break and then whipped it's butt into shape, the rest of the races were easy. Everone said that I couldnt beat eddie in a RX-7, I've proved them very wrong!!

But what is quite frustrating, is that all (well, not all I admit

) rooms are dominated by the RX-7 or the Miata. No offence to anyone who uses this car, but do we all lack the creativity to choose another car than those two? Sure, it kicks ass in the game and you win races with it. And yes, I'm not too good so I can hardly keep up, but that makes my occasional victories even more fun... It is this bad that: I've only seen 4 different cars (and none of them is a mazda) in one game, just ONCE...

I think thats some what exaggerated in the Miata's case. But your dead on with the RX-7.
I race online alot... I mean alot and from my experience the top 6 most over used cars with an average of 35/50 users in a lobby are (in order from most too least) RX-7, Skyline, RSX, Eclipse, Escort, Miata.

Thats about an average of 11 RX-7's, 8 Skyline's, 6 RXS', 3 Escorts, 3 Miatas and 4 other misc cars which are usualy a mix of Supra's, Civic's and S2000's. Give or take 2 or 3 for each brand as people come and go constantly.

But I'm quite persitant, I started off with the Focus and I'll hang on to it...

But you're shiznit me: even more Focusses than Miata's?!?! Unfortunately, I don't have too much time to race, but when I do, I'm online pretty long. Met some fast 206'es, Integra, and an occasional Eclipse. I was so stoked when I was in a game with a 206, a RSX and a GolfGTI! Unfortunately the Golf was a TJ cheater, but than again, never seen a GolfGTI with such a high score on circuit. Hope ppl will change their minds about their car choice, brings more diversity to the online gameplay...

I love the Focus. Dispite it's lower handling capability, in the right hands it can be your worst nightmare to race againce. And those are usualy people who chose that car when it became available and stuck with it through thick and thin.

But as to my rough estimate above, notice that the Focus and Miata averages are equel. And they usualy are.

Unfortunately I've only met a couple of Focusses online, and I outraced them

but you're right: I stick to it, and winning from 3 RX-7's with a Focus makes my day! My handling however is quite good, but it lacks topspeed! I chose tires for my last TJ in the singleplayermode and that set the handling pretty good.

On the carchoice part: perhaps ppl started off with a car they liked, but switched to other cars for racing online. You can tell (?) by their names (not exactly but you are online a lot, you know what I mean), something like: "Skyline2004" and driving a RX-7. "HondaPower" or "GTIthisAndThat" and still driving RX-7
