This is from the FAQ section on the official EA site...

  • Q. I'm behind a firewall and can't play Need for Speed Underground online. How can I correct this?

    A. Playing Behind A Firewall

We recommend that you do not play Need for Speed Underground online behind a firewall. However, if you do wish to play behind a firewall, you must open the following ports:

    TCP: 10900-10999 inclusive
    UDP: 3658 and 3659

If you need assistance in setting up your firewall, please contact the manufacturer of your firewall.

if the firewall blocks, you will get a firewall error.

but normally most people will not accept a challenge

try a 4 player game and see how that works, if it works there is no firewall problem

uhmmm .. if you can ask ppl to play ... it means you ARE in the room ... which means you HAVE established a connection ... which means.. you DON'T HAVE a problem ... the only problem is that nobody wants to race you .. but that's a different matter ;)

Nuh uh - I had the same deal with my firewall - got as far as the room, but couldn't make or *accept* a challenge... firewall I had at the time wasn't configurable either, so I was schtonkered... :(
