Organized ProStreet Grip Competition for PC (maybe others)

Postby RedCarDriver » 19 Aug 2008, 07:44

OK, I've decided to start a competition since online play is pretty much dead on ProStreet (heck, Carbon is pretty dead too, but oh well). I'm aiming to make this as fair as possible while keeping it interesting (no, I'm hoping we won't all use the same car).

This is basically how I think it'll work. This tournament will be on PC since that's the platform I'm on; if people on other platforms are interested, I encourage them to set something similar up (and heck, if there isn't enough interest in PC plans may change). Informal teams are allowed but they won't have any effect on scoring or anything. There will be different classes, sort of like in the FIA:

Class GT-Crown (ok, I made up the name):
Porsche 911 Turbo (997)
Ford GT
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
Pagani Zonda F
(the below are extender pack cars and thus may not apply to you, and may indeed not be allowed)
Porsche Carrera GT
Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997)
Koenigsegg CCX
McLaren F1

Class GT:
Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR34) (may be bumped up to GT-Crown)
Nissan 350Z (Z33) (may be moved down to NGT as its top speed is unimpressive)
Nissan Silvia (S15)
Infiniti G35 (V33)
Mazda RX-8 (SE3P)
Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)
Honda NSX (NA2)
Toyota Supra (JZA80) (may be moved down as people say it's not very good)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (CZ4A)
Subaru Impreza WRX STi (GDB-F)
Shelby GT500 '06 (really, it works well in Grip when well-tuned)
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C6)
Dodge Viper SRT-10
Porsche 911 GT2 (997)
Porsche Cayman S (987)
Lotus Elise (111R)
Audi RS4 quattro (B7)
(again, extender pack cars below)
Seat Leon Cupra
Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
Aston Martin DB9

Class NGT:
Nissan GT-R (CBA-R35)
Nissan 240SX (RPS13)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX MR-Edition (CT9A) (may be moved up)
Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX (may be moved up. i'm serious. it pwns with proper tuning.)
Mazdaspeed 3
Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE86)
Lexus IS350
BMW M3 (E46)
BMW M3 (E92) (may be moved down)
BMW Z4 M Coupe
Pontiac GTO (Monaro)
Pontiac Solstice GXP
Chevrolet Cobalt SS
Chevrolet Corvette (C6)
Chevrolet Camaro Concept
Ford Mustang GT '06
Ford Mustang GT '03
Ford Escort RS Cosworth
Audi S4
Audi S3
Audi TT
VW Golf GTI
VW Golf R32
(again, extender pack cars below)
Audi R8
Honda S2000 (AP1)
Lancia Delta Integrale Evo

Class N:
Honda Civic Hatchback (EK9)
Honda Civic Si (FG1)
Acura Integra Type-R (DC2)(there is no LS; is it worth listing twice?)
Acura RSX (DC5 facelifted)
Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda (maaay be moved up)
Plymouth Road Runner (extender pack car)
Dodge Charger R/T '69
Dodge Challenger R/T
Chevrolet Camaro SS
Chevrolet Chevelle SS
Shelby GT500 '67

Again, these lists are pretty rough estimates. Tuning the car (a lot) will be necessary. Please don't pick the same old cars you usually do; I'm hoping for lots of participation in groups N and NGT (if there isn't, we can rotate or something). I'm also hoping people won't all pick the same car, that would be boring (I'll say "different car for everyone" if I have to  ).

When you enter you will submit your blueprint to the person running the tournament (may not be me, I want to participate too :P ) and you'll be assigned to your class (or, if there's not enough interest, the class will be decided and everyone must make a blueprint to conform to that class). Qualifying will work as follows: You must complete three laps out of a five-lap race around Ebisu's Touge Course in under one minute each, without causing any damage to your car (whether or not it says "Light Damage" doesn't matter, if it's visible it still counts). This will be done in an Infiniti G35, which will not tuned for you (part of this is an exercise in tuning). Matches will be held online, in private rooms, and (importantly) on many different courses. I'm planning to include Autopolis and Chicago.

This competition will (hopefully) be an exercise in tuning as well as driving. For that reason I may not allow any GT-Crown entrants until a few tournaments in lower levels work out well. That's also why I stated I don't want people all using the same car. I also would like it if you'd paint your car at least a little; doesn't have to be the best in the Showroom or anything, but please make your car unique.

Well, that's it. I hope this works out well.

Or, we could all still be finding random, often mismatched races and competing futile-ly on the leaderboards against cheaters.

Bump.

Okay, I really am serious about this. Anyone interested, really? It doesn't even really have to be that formal. If regular online play is a problem, then this can be a lap-time-based competition or something. Again, anyone interested at all?

Has anyone ever done a partner competition? If so, how were the workouts? If youve seen any programming for partner competitions, Id appreciate some info relayed.
