NFS World: news round-up

Post by Hydro_PT »

The last couple of days have seen a lot of things going in Need For Speed: World, so here's a round-up of everything!

Porsche Panamera Turbo available for top-up

Image

The Porsche Panamera is Porsche's first commercial attempt in creating a 4-door luxury sports car. Competing with the Maserati Quattroporte or the Aston Martin Rapide, the Panamera is considered by many as the natural successor of the Porsche 989, a 4-door concept car created by Porsche in the late 1980's, which unfortunately never went into production (only one was built). However, many Porsche purists criticized this luxury car when it was revealed (like they did when the Cayenne SUV was launched). According to them, Porsche are deviating from their roots by creating this type of car, which is completely different from their usual two-door, rear engine sports car. Still, sales have been quite good.

Powered by a 4.8-liter V8 twin turbo engine, the Panamera Turbo develops 500 hp and is capable of reaching 303 km/h, which is impressive since the car weighs more than 1800 kilograms. Its luxury interior, front engine, rear-wheel drive or, in some models, four-wheel drive, and three different types of gearboxes (6-speed manual, 7-speed ZF PDK dual clutch or 8-speed Aisin Tiptronic S) make the Porsche Panamera a sight to behold on the road. World players can now get their hands on this luxury car if they top-up with 50000, 17500 or 8000 Speedboost!

Mazda RX-8 Renesis

Image

The Mazda RX-8 is a favourite as a tuner car, and has been featured in many Need For Speed games. Launched by Mazda in 2004 as the successor of the also well-known Mazda RX-7, many variations and special editions of the RX-8 have been created over the years, such as the "Shinka", "Nemesis" or "Mazdaspeed Version". In 2009 the RX-8 received a facelift and various improvements to its performance. However, the RX-8 was removed from the European market in 2010 after the car failed to meet emissions standards, so Mazda decided to discontinue its production because it was no longer viable for the company to produce the RX-8 without the profit from the European market. As such, the 2011 model of the Mazda RX-8 will be the last one to be built.

The Renesis is a specially modified version of the normal Mazda RX-8. Wearing its track livery, and sporting the lucky number 13, this ride will definitely stand out in a crowd. The black and charcoal design is picked out with red highlights and a red neon glow beneath your car. The custom painted wheels and the GT wing on the deck lid perfectly match this Mazda stunner.

March's IGC car: Chevrolet El Camino SS Blue Juggernaut

Image

As most players know, at the end of each month the dev. team releases a car for in-game cash (IGC). For this month the chosen car is the Chevrolet El Camino SS Blue Juggernaut. This car is pretty similar to the Team Escape edition of the El Camino, which was available as top-up car in January. The only change seems to be the colour (blue instead of red). If you are in need of a Tier 2 Team Escape car or just want a mad pick-up truck, all you have to spent is $250,000 in the car lot to get it.

Cars out of retirement for limited time:

Three cars that were retired last year are now back for a limited amount of time, and each one has a 30% discount over the normal price. If you haven't got them, now it is your chance to grab two of the best Tier 3 cars in World: the Ford Mustang RTR-X and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. If Tier 2 is more your thing, don't forget to buy the BMW M3 E30 Sport Evolution, which is also back in the game.

Week of Games - All-Stars Events

Image

There's a new contest going on in Need For Speed: World, and it is open to any player in the world! Week of Games started on Monday 26th and continues throughout this week. The rules are simple: each day EA will choose a sprint or circuit event on a designated track, and all you have to do is complete that event in a multiplayer race within the 24 hours to be eligible. Everyone that completes the event will be entered into a random draw to win one of 10 daily Amazon Gold Starter Packs. However, there's a little catch: to participate in the race you must be driving a car from a certain brand. On Monday the chosen brand was Ford (so any Ford vehicle would do); yesterday the event was made available to Porsche owners only. This Wednesday, March 28th, the chosen event is Old Quarter, and the brand is BMW. The race begins at 01:00 GMT Thursday 29th, and finishes at 01:00 GMT Friday 30th.

The winners will be selected by random draw and announced on 4th April. Please note that it doesn't matter in which place you finish the race, or how fast you go. All you need to do is finish the chosen race with a car from the chosen brand within the 24 hours to be eligible for a random draw.
