GTA VC with XP?

Post by Koffy »

I have this problem: When I run GTA at 1024x768x32 bits, the game runs smooth for about a second and then it slows down a little for a short time (less than a sec) and then again smooth, again slow and so. Besides, when I drive, the walls of the building which i get close to have the low quality skin, like the one you can see from the other island when flying. If I stop and stare at a building for some time, then the textures appear.

I am using:

G-Force 2 MX 400
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
MSI K7N2-DeltaL motherboard
Two 256Mb DDR 333MHz RAM modules
Windows XP, with no actualization.

The video drivers I'm using are the ones provided with WinXP. If I try to install the ones provided by Nvidia, it denies to update the drivers or crashes when restarting the system after the actualization.

That's not the real problem, cause 800x600x32 is also junky, not as much in the slowdown thing, but in the missing textures which then appear.
In my old junky P3 750Mh, 800x600x16 had not such a problem, with thwe same video board.

Try setting the game to 16 bits instead of 32..

No matter it fixed...

Don't ask me how, because I have no idea.
The only thing I did was update the reader's firmware, and then I lowered the representation distance to the middle. The textures loaded fine now. Then, I raised the representaion distange again to the maximum, and it did still work... Who knows... :?

Ok, I fixed the slowdowning thing. I dowloaded the newest driver from Nvidia.

I tested my system at PcPitstop (http://www.pcpitstop.com) Before and after the driver update:

Before -- Performance 86.34 MP/s
After -- Performance 90.07 MP/s

Big change, uh!
