Re: Cover art comp: Midnight Club: LA
I have a new WIP, is it possible to change my final entry or is it too late race_invader?
I mucked about with a few filters (motion blur on a duplicated layer then switch to overlay, wind, etc.) and all I need to do is chuck on logos and it's done. I thought it looked better than the M3 anyway because I could do a little bit more without ruining it totally. Just in case you're not car-savvy, it's the 2009 Corvette ZR1.

Why not going for a CG cover?
Re: Cover art comp: Midnight Club: LA
If you want to be a softee, be my guest. Im open to critique any work posted. In fact, last I checked, this was an open forum, open to discussion.race_invader wrote:Most likely more was done just then that, also if you think it was easy why dont you enter then? simple, saves you from saying everyone else's is just a picture with a logo. Cause if you think that everyone else's is just a logo slapped on that must mean if you enter you would be able to win or at least come 2nd.

Its Friday today and tomorrow (Saturday) this ends but people will have Saturday (Day) until 7:00pm umm dont know what time that would be around the world etc..
I wont enter because I dont have the time nor the inclination to. Why waste my time working on artwork based for a "competition?" Does it appeal no my sense of fun? No.
All the box art entered thus far sucks. Am I saying this because I can do better? Umm, Im saying it because its the truth.

Much better; however I was thinking more along the lines of this. . .

Re: Cover art comp: Midnight Club: LA
Korge, it's too dull. How will that stand out as an exciting street racing game? The original could use a tad less saturation, or maybe just the car, but it works well.

Yeah, I see what you mean.baumaxx1 wrote:Korge, it's too dull. How will that stand out as an exciting street racing game? The original could use a tad less saturation, or maybe just the car, but it works well.

Yet you find it fun to waste an equal amount of time criticising peoples work?korge wrote:I wont enter because I dont have the time nor the inclination to. Why waste my time working on artwork based for a "competition?" Does it appeal no my sense of fun? No.
I would also agree that most of these covers are not very good, but it would be alright for me to say that because I often enter these sorts of 'competitions'. You never enter anything, but you feel happy to just stand there and say that we suck.
It would appear that you have plenty of time on your hands, so I would have to label you as nothing short of lazy.
And irritating.

Oh right, actual game renders.
Nah, not my sort of thing I just like using real pictures of real life cars.

Re: Cover art comp: Midnight Club: LA
But it makes sense to when the game is CG.
When I see a photograph, It just doesnt come across as video game. At BEST it may look like a movie poster.

Methinks you should do something with the background. Having a daylight photo for Midnight Club?

Re: Cover art comp: Midnight Club: LA
If the people who actually made the game have no problem with the cars in the game being in daylight, then whats the problem? :/ I like it.

Re: Cover art comp: Midnight Club: LA
Yeah, just like the rest of us according to korge they just put the logo on top of the picture... It looks like a filter was applied though for that darker effect.xHaZxMaTx wrote:Really? Re: Cover art comp: Midnight Club: LA
Are you kidding me? I modified almost the whole image, rebrushing parts of the car, sharpening the background, adding smoke and lights, etc.
More than just a filter...
