Showroom Software Updates

Post by Bojan »

I decided to make this topic to let you know what's going on behind the scenes of the Showroom. Whether or not I'm actually doing anything to make it better or just sitting around drinking beer all day.
Whenever a new feature is added, an important bug is fixed or anything else that I think you will find interesting is done on the showroom software, I will post a little notice in this topic.

Starting with this week's updates:
  • added the ability to disable comments on entries - visit the entry page and click on edit right below the description
  • change shoutbox appearance - they are now more comment-like as I noticed they weren't used for live chat really. This way they posting is still easy and you can spot who posted the shout from miles away
What's coming:
  • HoF - preview - best entries in the showroom
  • absolute entry position based on star rating, weekly position movements

Hall of Fame is looking good... And my collab is in it :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D My best is like... 7 stars from it. What's with the double stars for weekly? Or is that just being ironed out? But yeah, hall of fame is a good idea... where abouts will it be placed? Lol @ Rayado's domination though.

What's this absolute entry position? Does it have something to do with the rep-descending search giving older cars double rep?

But yeah, going well.

No, it's quite simple actually:

your entry has 123 stars -> 100 entries have more stars than yours -> yours is on position 101.
Last week it was on position 150, which means it went up 50 places.

The only question is whether this should be done on an all-time scale, or in the last 1week/1month/6months...

Oooh... hmm... yeah, tough one... maybe have a tab thing so you can just flick between the different time periods, or instead of 6 months, do 3? Dunno, PS isn't really that old.

Added car ranks to the entry page in the "Star Rating" box.
  • rank all means the rank the car has in it's game
  • rank car means the rank the car has in it's game among the same cars
  • arrows on the left will take you to the first entry that has a better star rating
  • arrows on the right will take you to the first entry that has a worse star rating
  • If more cars share the same star rating, a random one will be displayed every time.
  • the red/green text up/down followed by a number means how many places the entry has moved since last week. A black bullet means it hasn't moved at all. Since previous week ranks haven't been recorded, the movement won't show properly this week.

The rating thing is pretty cool I think ,its kinda confusing with the moving up and down places part to me anyways but has great potential I think. :D But I do agree with FrankGthang that a new site look would be nice.

The movement indicators were showing just the opposite of what they should be showing. Fixed that so the display should be correct.

HoF added to the showroom.
Link is under "Top" cars on every game page.

Minor style changes to improve the red style.

The ranking thing is playing up a bit...
<< Rank all: 180 • down 153 >>
<< Rank car: 3 • down 4 >>
So I've fallen from 0th spot, and I've managed to fall 153 places from a spot that I have never been at, and last time I checked it was 300th. Just to let you know.

Hey, how about bringing back the random car thing on the sidebar like in the old-school showroom? That was pretty cool.

I've been actually thinking of making something like that. Will be the first thing on the todo list when I get back.

User pages were updated so the garage descriptions do not show HTML. This was done because it is a possible security risk.

It only affects the user profile page which lists all garages.

  • Added the randomizer, which replaced the profile button on the showroom top bar (profile link is accessible from the user control panel on the right)
  • Slightly changed the entry page (black background behind images)
  • Changed video display a bit and added fullscreen option

Tags are back!

Tag your entries and garages with keywords you think apply. Soon a list of mosts popular list will appear on the front page of the showroom. (like on Showroom3).

Other features from SR3 will be returning (groups, countries).

The new Showroom home page:
http://www.nfsunlimited.net/showroom/home

It still required a little of fine tuning, but the idea is fixed.
