Vector Art
I don't use PhotoShop to get the lines, just color it. For the outline I use AutoDesk, but I think I have a pretty good idea of how to do it with PS. What I would do is make a copy of the car using the polygon lasso, then go to Select>Modify>Expand by 1 or 2 pixels, and just fill that in with black. If hat's no the right way to do it, I aplogize, but that's how I would do it.
Anyway, here's the final drawing of my Ford GT, now I have just have to thicken the lines and color. The white lines represent reflections and the gray lines represent shadows...

It isn't the right way, but you dont need to appologize
Edit: To shutup all the people who want to find out how to do Vectors:

It's a big image, and it takes a lot of time, and the one l showed you is for intermediate to advanced Photoshoppers (I'm more intermediate then noob, thats why mine are more simplistic)

No, I mean they're not round, they're compiled of a bunch of straight lines. Mine aren't jagged, the image is just low quality.
-EDIT-
See, look, like this. You're curves are like the second circle, but if you use just a little more nodes, or whatever you want to call them, you can make the line look much smoother.
