Well, not quite because the 7900 GS only has 20 pipelines and 7 vertex shaders and the 7900 GT/GTX have 24 pipelines and 8 vertex shaders ...

But the 7900 GS definitely overclocks very well, so you can achieve 7900 GTX performance with a good VGA cooler. Highest overclock I've seen from a 7900 GS is 791/1806 (Stock is 450/1320) ...

The Vanilla 6800 is a little slower on the core (325 MHz x 12 Pipes x 5 Vertex shaders vs. 400 MHz x 12 Pipes x 5 Vertex Shaders), but it has considerably more memory bandwidth.

What this means is you should get better performance at lower resolutions and medium/low settings with the 7600 GS, but worse performance with high resolutions and high settings where you'll be making more use of the memory ... Overall, the 7600 GS should be a little faster in reality since you probably won't be playing @ 1920x1200 w/ high settings with a card of this caliber ...

The 6800 was the 4th fastest card in the 6000-series (6800 Ultra, 6800 GT, 6800 GS, 6800, 6600 GT, 6800 XT, 6800 LE, 6600, 6600 LE, 6500, 6200, 6200 TC), so it's more upper-midrange ...

There is a non playable demo of X3 Reunion that is basicly a benchmark so you can get that to test you gfx card

My 7600GT which comes tomarrow

is overclocked to the power of a 7800GT or even a 7900 if you take it one step further!!! Do you have to have a six pin connector on your PSU for a PCI-e Graphics Card?

Core clock 580MHz (vs 560MHz std)
Memory Clock 1450MHz (vs 1400MHz std)

Well, mine's (XFX - 7600GT xXx) comes overclocked to 590 MHz core clock, and 1600 MHz Memory clock, and you can still overclock the core clock to 609 MHz without having technical problems.

and you might wanna check the newest 7600GT by XFX- Fatal1ty, it comes with 650 MHz core clock and 1600 MHz memory clock.

A friend and i built a comp for a dude that had 2 of those in it. OMG BF2142 looked so good at full, and we were just running them stock, no Oc-ing! I can only imagine....

ok, i've been going back and forth with video cards lately, and i want to make a decision on which one i want. Nvidia or ATI? I cant decide if i should just get a 7950 like I planned, or if i should save a bit and get a 8800gts, or wait a while and see what other 8 series there are, what do you guys think the best thing to do would be? Also what do you think the best all around card is that could run basically anything at full, for around the under 350sih range. Mind you this could be anywhere from 200-350.

At the moment, Nvidia is ahead with the 8800, so if your looking for the highest end card available right now thats a good choice. ATI plans to release a new card, but there is almost no information on it except that it's called the "R600" and there is no set release date or real specifications of it.

7950 GT is not very competitive in its price range. It gets absolutely dominated by the X1950 XT in terms of performance, although Nvidia does have the advantage in terms of drivers.

If you can handle what you have for a month or two, Nvidia and ATI should be releasing some new next-gen cards in February, so it may be worth waiting.

As for right now, though, the 8800 GTS is freaking awesome and if you're going to spend $400+ on a graphics card, it's the only way to go. Plus, it overclocks substantially as well, easily giving you 8800 GTX performance.

ok, so a 7950gt isnt that great of an idea, and btw theres a evga 8800gts for like 370 after rebate, so if i get a 88, that'll be the one. But im almost done with my comp anyway, all i have is ram and video card, so by the time i got the money saved up, hopefully it will be right when the new cards come out and i can see if i want that or the 8800. (BTW my system is Asus a8n32 sli deluxe, athlon x2 4400 dual core, zalman pure copper cpu fan, 2 gb ddr dual channel, seagate 320gb sata2, 2X samsung dvd drives. Ultra 600watt psu sli enabled)

O yea one more question, there are working video drivers for DX10 on xp pro right? I have heard of lots of people having problems with it, but it might have just been on vista.

And i went to nvdia's site and there were drivers for xp and xp media center edition.
But i guess thats just dx9, so what your saying is, you can still use an 8800 on xp, but with dx9, but if you want dx 10, you need vista. right?

8800s can run DX9 too.. So if you stay on XP, the only thing you'll be running is DX9. DX10 requires Vista.
