Ouch...A bit harsh don't ya think? But I think you'd need the latest Patch. Expansion packs aren't need to play the game normally. It just gives add on maps and characters. But you might wanna check his/her system specs to see if he/she can play the game at all.

Ok then install the game and play. The game should update the patch automatically but if it doesn't then go to the game's site and get it from there
