NFSC major artifacts...

Arghh... so annoying. The menu's work just fine, but once the actualy game starts, it throws veyr strange artifacts around and freezes up, usually instantly. I set my desktop resolution to 1024x768 and 60Hz, and that makes the game work for like 10 minutes, but framerates are horrible, even on the lowest setting!

P4 3.0GHz Northwood
2 GB of DDR400 RAM
eVGA GeForce 6800 128MB at 380/815 dropped back to stock 325/700, Arctic Cooling (42 degrres idle, never above 65 full load)

I upgraded the game, I have the latest GPU driver and it still blows ass. Every other game works like a charm. Even while I was under the huge O/C, everything stayed perfectly cool and stable, but this one game is giving me a headache already. Any ideas?
