Seems like alot of people have this problem... *hugs xbox 360 Ethernet cable*

Anyways!

If you have a modem, just try these simple steps:

Plug PS3 in to modem
Turn PS3 on
Turn modem off
wait 2mins
Turn modem back on
Set EVERYTHING on the PS3 to auto and it should work

If not then well get better help.. thats all i can think of.

I don't have a PS3 but I do have a 360 and I do know how to hook it up to the computer:
Plug Ethernet cable into Xbox 360/PS3
Plug other end of ethernet cable into modem
turn Xbox 360/PS3 on
wait for the dashboard to come up and wait for it to connect to Xbox Live/wait for the PS3 to say it is connected(I don't need to turn the modem off because I have a router;I don't know if the PS3 will say it is connected or not, but that's how I learned how to connect a console to the internet)

then yeah it will work
but this is why you go up to BestBuy and buy the cheapest router you can get and install the program and hook your internet up to it then hook up you PS3 to it

its much more simpler to do what I just said then to hook it up to your laptop

Honestly, I doubt you will be able to run internet to your PS3 though your PC... I know it wasn't possible with PS2's, and I haven't heard of it being done with a PS3 but what the hey, it could work...

I really would suggest you to buy a wireless router, since your PS3 should have wi-fi, (unless it's a 40GB model.) Then it's pretty much just install the router, and set up the settings on your PS3. (Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to get the PS3 set up... maybe 30 for the router if it's your first time or you run into a complication.) After that, you can move your PS3 to anywhere in your house and have internet 24/7. Unless you have one massive house...

.... That is quite possibly one of the silliest things I've read since I've come back to the forums after such a long time absent... then again I am a prick so I guess that's that.

Why shouldn't you be able to get an internet connection for your PS3 through your PC?
As it is the PS3 'acts' like a part-time PC anyhow, since you can copy entire folders, etc from the PC to your PS3 (like I have for some of the music I listen to and anime I watch, since obviously the 360 is far from my media center since it lacks this function alone, then again I haven't hooked my 360 up to the net for a while, but I doubt m$ would have fixed that anytime soon) via either wired or in-built wireless (tfft) functionality.
When I was first using my PS3 I thought I had to connect it through the PC to get the internet working but fortunately you don't.
Regardless, You can run your PS3 through a laptop providing it has an Ethernet port readily available and that you allow your internet connection to be shared. Besides that there should not be any major problems at all, but if you're using a laptop anyhow, why is there nasty wires connected :<

Bah, anyways
PS3 + PC + Ethernet connection + shared internets = works
TEH END!!!

Go to your network connections, find your internet connection, go to the sharing tab, click to share connection, try connection on PS3 again.
