Re: Ugly Cars
The Aero 8 is hot. I would love to have one of those
Re: Ugly Cars
I thinks it's awesome with the exception of the headlights, which for some reason are positioned cross-eyed...

Priuses suck gasoline, too - in Top Gear's test, it got worse MPG than a diesel VW something-or-other.speed_man wrote:Yes prius sucks
Re: Ugly Cars
That depends on how you drive it. You could ridiculously high MPG in a 'gas-guzzler' given an ideal situation (coasting down a hill with the car turned off ), or you can get the worst gas mileage in the world in a supposedly high-MPG car (going 60 MPH up a 30% grade in 1st gear ).

Re: Ugly Cars
Either way, it was the same exact situation for both cars and the Prius got 40-some MPG while the VW got far higher - between 50 and 60. Look it up on YouTube.
EDIT: Err, actually it was this car:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Lupo
...the "3L" variant, probably - made to get better than 70MPG.

Re: Ugly Cars
uuuuuuuuuuuuuh DUH, that Diesel Lupo was build to do just that!
VW is working with high MPG diesels for a long time now, they started with the lupo 3L (wich is named so because it should do 3 litre at 100 Km, don't ask me about the MPG cause I can't be bothered to calculate it)
Now they are building the Blue Motion range wich are also high mpg diesel cars (less then the 3L because the Blue motion versions are full option where the 3L is stripped of anything that uses power (no AC etc)
Diesel cars always have a higher MPG so it's not that hard to get a higher MPG out of a diesel car then a petrol, if you can find a petrol car that has a better MPG in the city then a hybrid, please share.

Re: Ugly Cars
Yeah, I sort of realized my mistake as soon as I posted that; maybe I didn't make it clear enough that I realized how stupid it sounded with the edit and in fact made myself sound even stupider.
Either way, I was trying to make the point that the Prius isn't the best choice when it comes to fuel economy; if they made a diesel Prius it might be better but heck, it'd probably be easier to buy a regular diesel car. In short, my previous two posts were not meant to say "the Prius is so terrible that 'EVEN' car X gets better mileage than it", it was more of "the Prius isn't even the top-performing car, mileage-wise - there are far better options".

No, it wasn't. It was a Prius test where Clarkson complained about the Prius' low MPG, saying that the Lupo would be a better alternative. It wasn't a comparison test, just a Prius alone one.Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:To be more correct it was actually an E92 M3

Re: Ugly Cars
That was an earlier episode. Around 3 weeks ago one was aired where a Prius was raced around the track, and an M3 tasked with keeping up. The M3 managed better fuel consumption than the Prius.PSZeTa wrote:No, it wasn't. Re: Ugly Cars
Koenigsegg_Rox implied that RedCarDriver was wrong, but he actually wasn't, as he was refering to an older episode.
Darn internet arguing. Reminds me of that special olympics picture.
In the latest season episode, the Prius was raced while the M3 only had to keep up. Thus the cars are driven in a different way.RedCarDriver wrote:it was the same exact situation for both cars.

Re: Ugly Cars
in regards of MPG, the BMW 3 series turbo disel surpasses all . now if only they could bring it to the US. ANd the prius is actually campaignied to be a race car belive it or not, if it hasnt already. The batteries die out after about a lap and a half, but recharge themselves over the course of the race so the driver can run on them again. i'll see if i can get my scanner to work so i can scan the article out of car and driver.
Re: Ugly Cars
That is typical Top Gear, bending the facts so that the object they want gets the better result...PSZeTa wrote: In the latest season episode, the Prius was raced while the M3 only had to keep up. Thus the cars are driven in a different way.
Top Gear is alot of fun and they have alot of cool car tests, but they have a bad habbit of making stuff better then it is, and making idiots believe those are the full facts while in fact it's just half the story.
Overall it was funny but anything but realistic...
ooh and talking about Ugly cars..
Today I saw a BMW X6.
I tought it was ugly on pictures and hoped they did not really build it...
Now I seen it in real life and I have to say:
It's even UGLIER then on the pictures, simply horrible!

Re: Ugly Cars
You say that, but every Prius I ever see is driven moronically, thrashing the life out of it. Whereas most M3's are driven pretty sedately, besides at motorway speed.
As for the X6, it's ugly, but so are a lot of really good cars. And it's apparently an absolutely fantastic drive. AWD, perfect weight ballance, low centre of gravity and a twin turbo 4.0L V8.

Re: Ugly Cars
I'll believe you right away that the X6 is a good car to drive, but I wouldn't want to be seen in one.
As for the Prius and the M3 as you stated as always it's all about who is driving it.
Recentlty I see alot of Prius, and alot of them are driven fast and they are trashing them, the number of Prius has increased this year because from now on you get a discount on your lease if you get a A rating car, so you pay less a month then other cars, and you pay alot more if you got a car with a high Co2 or low MPG.
So they buy a hybrid because it's costs less a month, and drive it like there is no tomorrow.
