Need for Speed SHIFT Out September 17th

Post by Bojan »

Need for Speed SHIFT's release date has been set:
September 17th - Europe
September 22th - North America

The press release:
Delivering a True Driver’s Experience, Need for Speed SHIFT Pushes Authentic Racing Genre to the Next Level

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced today that Need for Speed™ SHIFT, the all-new authentic racing game in the Need for Speed series, will hit stores in Europe on September 17 and North America on September 22, 2009. Need for Speed SHIFT brings a true driver’s experience to some of the world’s most iconic racing tracks, including the storied Brand’s Hatch in the UK. The game also features the largest roster of high-performance cars in Need for Speed history including race cars such as the Pagani Zonda F, Porsche 911 GT2 and Lotus Elise.

“With Need for Speed SHIFT, we set out to create a racing game that pushes the genre and delivers something never before seen in a Need for Speed title,” said Patrick Soderlund, Senior Vice President at EA Games Europe. “By focusing on the driver’s experience through the first-person view, we are able to capture the high-speed intensity and gripping emotions of racing.”

Players are thrust into the loud, intense, and athletic experience of racing a car from the driver’s perspective through the combination of perception based G-forces, the hyper reality of the cockpit view, and the all-new brutally disorienting crash dynamic. Need for Speed SHIFT features an accurate, accessible physics-based driving model that allows you to feel every impact, every change of track surface and every last bit of grip as you push yourself to the edge.

Need for Speed SHIFT is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios in collaboration with Black Box and Patrick Soderlund. Slightly Mad Studios includes developers and designers that worked on the critically acclaimed games GT Legends and GTR 2. The PSP version is being developed by EA’s Bright Light studio.

Asia?

Why is EA so desperate to release it? I really hope they won't screw up again..

"pushing for the next level" or "pushing for the next release date"?

Sigh... There goes EA crushing my dreams of a good NFS. Looks like Shift might get kicked out the door just like Undercover.

After more than 3 years of development it sounds like a logical move to release that early...

September 17th? Wow, that's early. We usually don't get them by November. But hey, after three years, it's time.

It just seems to rushy for me. And how much of that 3 years could EA possibly squeeze into making this game, with all previous 3 games they had to release since 2006?

OK, I lost there. :P

But overall, EA or not EA, it's still NFS. Personally, I feel I have the right to doubt, although I'm nowhere vehemently stating that I don't have confidence in this game, because I really do; it's really looking good so far. :)

Just glad that I clarified. :)

You know what sucks about this? That's smack dab in the middle of the fall semester, meaning I won't get to play till much much much later. At least the November release date only meant about a month of waiting...

This NFS looks to be a complete Shift haha. Even the release date is different, we usually get them in November. :D

Well earlier or not, I just hope we get a good game.

PS: Wow, Europe is going to get the game first. I don't remember seeing that happening with a game for YEARS. America ALWAYS get the games sooner. <_<
