There were some rumors surfacing that the free-roaming city driving format would find its way into the online play, creating an underground car tuning and racing culture. Will we see something like this in the final version?
Kristian von Fersen: Outrun races take full advantage of the free-roaming city, allowing players to drive anywhere they want. Due to the unique construction of the city and the various driving challenges each region offers, players will need to develop certain strategies to win. Players that build out cars with great handling but lower top end generally seem to migrate to the downtown core area where they have the opportunity to lose their opponents with tight cornering and split second decisions. Other players that lean more towards the high end of the performance spectrum usually frequent the highway system where they try to outdistance their opponents with sheer top speed. Either way, having the entire world, and a few friends to challenge proves for one incredibly entertaining night.
