ey! i said if bogan
besides, i'm seriously short of cash, due to my recent buy of half life 2 and NFSU 2
if i do upgrade, i'll probably give my old parts away though.
or build a server from them, whatever takes my fancy at the moment.
EDIT: good specs there, costs too much for me though. but i think you'll find that 80gb drives arent that good value anymore. 120-160gb is the sweet spot between price vs capacity

a lot of the new P4 are already a 64bit chip, altho they show as a 32bit chip, this is because MS isnt releasing the 64bit windows os for quite some time, but when windows 64bit is released all they will do is send out a windows update to enable the 64bit capabilities of the newer chips, but then of course you have to buy windows 64bit OS, on another note, most games wont support a 64bit processor, a friend of mine has dual AMD XP's and he cant play hardly any games and a lot of his software refuses to install. leave 64bit alone. leave it for servers and the like. 32bit is more than capable of running any games when paired with a nice GFX card and a 512 of DDR Memory.

The only intel's 64bit chip is the itanium which is for servers only.
The only desktop 64bit cpu is the Athlon64 from AMD. And since it has 32bit emulation, EVERY app that runs on a 32bit cpu, will run on the Athlon64.
What windows with 64bit support will bring is better speed in windows and in 64bit apps under those windows.
Oh and even though the Athlon64s run on a much lower frequencies than P4s, they're just as fast as the latest P4 models.

About monitors... It depends on your tastes.
CRT ("fat" monitors ) --> Bigger quality, resolution, contrast ratio... Exhausting for eyes. Cheaper.
LCD/TFT --> Smaller, nicer. More relaxing for your eyes. More expensive.
If you spend a lot of time in your computer, go for a LCD.
Notice the sizes are different in CRT and LCD:
15" LCD = 17" CRT
17" TFT = 19" CRT
19"TFT = wow!!!
Now Im going to talk about LCDs:
Dont forget to check the contrast and brightness ratio. My monitor is 400:1 and 300:1, which are decent features. Dont get a monitor with lower contrast/brightness than my one if you are a gamer.
CRT monitors have easily 700:1 and higher contrast ratios.
LCDs usual Resolution:
15" --> 1024x768
17" --> 1280x960
18/19" --> 1600x1200
The lower pitch the better:
Pitch = Size(mm)/number of pixels.
For example, my monitor pitch is 0.297. (304mm/1024px)
a 1600x1200 17" CRT pitch is smaller, about 0.200 which is very good.
Good brands: Samsung, Sony.

TFT stands for Thin Film Transistor, which is just a type of LCD. (in case you didn't know, LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display)PSZeTa wrote:Isn't TFT the same as LCD?
BTW, it's better for your eyes too. You'll have more radiation coming from a normal CRT screen.
Personally, I go for the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors because they have better and more accurate colour, they've got better refresh rates, they're cheaper, bigger, and you can stick your post-it notes on the sides. (I think I've said this all before)
And they only give you sore eyes if you are some kind of loser you spends their whole life in front of a computer.
