Digital Photography
Re: Digital Photography
That last one is pretty epic. :O
Re: Digital Photography
Agreed. It's all grand-finale-esque.
Re: Digital Photography
I took some more pics of my friend skating. It finally got warmer but he had a migraine so he was kinda bad. meh...
I got one of those "three combined shots in one" photos that I'll mess with tomorrow. It's too late for photoshop right now. The one with the flash was in the evening and I forgot to set my ISO higher. =\
EDIT: I edited one of the pics and the result was pretty epic. It's quite common in skate photography to have a fish-eye and crazy over-saturated colors with tons of edge sharpening. This is my attempt. (If anyone's interested, I used the warp tool in transformations to get the fish-eye effect)

Re: Digital Photography
Y'know there's an actual preset for fisheye distortion, right? Ctrl+A to select the canvas, Edit > Transform > Warp, then in the drop-down available, select Fisheye.
Anywho, my dad, his girlfriend and her kids went to Foffil Falls, yesterday - my dad asked me if I wanted to come, so I figured I'd tag along for some photography. Most of these are HDR... and portrait-oriented, apparently. o:
I'll probably end up redoing this. Photoshop's 'merge to HDR' made some weird zig-zagging artifacts. :/
Very pleased with how this came out - nice and sharp.
I eventually had to climb back up all of that...
All that basalt sue does reflect a lot of light.
I actually intended to merge -2EV - +2EV, but I didn't like how that was turning out, so I just messed with the shadow/highlight on the single, 'correct' exposure.
And a leezard.

Re: Digital Photography
So I went to BestBuy after work, today, and had a look at the 50D. S'nice~ Nice weight and build quality - feels like it could take quite a beating (not that I'd want to find out ). The LCD is nice and clear, which would be great for manual focusing during live view, the 6.3 shots per second is very nice, and the high ISO noise control is simply amazing. ISO 3200 on the 50D looks like ISO 400 on my XSi! It didn't even take 5 minutes to get the controls down, even with the replacement of the D-pad on the XSi with the second scroll wheel on the 50D. I could very likely be getting the 50D as my next camera.

Re: Digital Photography
I'm sure some of you may have seen this picture in another thread, but just for information's sake, this was taken using the Canon 5D.
Not RAW unfortunately - it's JPEG, 'cuz it's just for fun.

Re: Digital Photography
Why not just use Lightroom, haz? I use that for all my RAW photos (which is all of em)
Re: Digital Photography
'Cause I'm used to Adobe Camera Raw? o:
Re: Digital Photography
It's a RAW file editor. You can set the exposure, white balance, color corrections, etc. Also contrast/blacks/shadows/highlights/ all that good stuff.
Re: Digital Photography
You can also adjust vignetting, fix chromatic aberrations, reduce colour and light noise, sharpen, etc., etc., etc. It's also considered non-destructive editing, because any changes you make can be undone, even after closing the file and re-opening it.
Nice shots, by the way - I especially like the flowers with the power line tower in the distance.

Re: Digital Photography
Behold..
Canon Super Telephoto 1200mm f/5.6L EF USM.
The Canon 1200/5.6L USM, the longest fixed telephoto lens ever built by Canon, contains 13 elements (2 Fluorite) in 10 groups and focus' down to 49.5'. With an angle-of- view of about 2° on a full-frame 35 mm camera, calling this lens a 'tele' is like calling King Kong a monkey.
Built-to-order by Canon from 1993 to 2005, each lens was hand-crafted at the rate of about 2-per-year and a delivery time of about 18 months. Only a dozen-or-so were ever made. Who bought them? National Geographic magazine and Sports Illustrated are known to own a couple, the Feds probably have a few squirreled away somewhere, and a few well-heeled photo enthusiasts.
Apart from a few minor cosmetic blemishes, this particular lens is extremely clean inside and out. Included with this lens is a leather slip-on 'lens cap', a fitted aluminum trunk case, and a prodigious measure of ego satisfaction. Weighing in at over 36lbs and an overall length of 33 inches, a sturdy tripod and pan/tilt head is highly recommended. Pack mule not included.
Cost? Hoho... Get ready for this: $120,000! You can get a pretty decent car with that money.. Two Corvettes to be precise.

Re: Digital Photography
hooooooooooooooly sh*t. The quality is uber for a telephoto like that. No wonder it costs so much.
Re: Digital Photography
Yeah, I noticed that, actually, having gone back and read the article, again. The 100% crops are amazing! You can easily see someone standing in one of the windows of those buildings in Jersey from two miles away - Hell, you could probably see the expression on their face!
Re: Digital Photography
lolwut? "Look honey, it's a bigass lens from two miles away staring straight at us!"
