Carbon PC System Requirements

If you take a game and plug it onto DDR II 667 Mhz but 512Mb and on DDR I 400Mhz but 1048Mb the first one will load faster but FPS will be lower as memory amount is smaller.
I myself dont think it will not work perfectly on 512Mb...1 GB isnt a minimum even for high-end shooter games where you do need both speed and capacity.
...I went from 512mb to 1024mb then to 2048mb and i noticed a massive increase in BOTH loading times AND overall performance...Simply because the more RAM u have the more instructions can be handled from the CPU at one time Also the faster the mhz the faster the instructions get processed, Duel Channel memory runs twice as fast as a sinlge channel memory..
If this Game says it needs 1024MB Of RAM I can hardly see it running as well on 512MB... Games such as BF2, F.E.A.R, Company Of Hereos, Prey...to name a few ALL require 1gb to run satisfactory.
As for now my rig'll handle pretty much n e thing thrown at it...in theory...
And dont get started bout the Graphics cards, i hope it takes advantage of pixel shader 3 but doubt there'll be much call for it
1. Ofc the amount of RAM will increase overall performance, but since wer talking strictly about loading speed then amount doesnt matter unless you have a game that got 1 Gb worth of textures that must be loaded all same time. No of games currently in exisance load all their textures at once. Amount gives your PC ability to load more in one go, while speed of your RAM dictates the time within it will load\unload data from memory.
2. Noone cares how much RAM slapped into system reqs. All games tested on Alienware-like systems that cost like a car. So they can actually slap any number in there saying you need that particular number to run game on max options and playable FPS wich is about 50+. But point is, i myself dont run any of my games on maxxed out settings, even those i can handle perfectly fine.
As for dual channel memory, had a talk with some of friends that works in Dell or something thats what he said:
First off, SDRAM is basically just common RAM, (Which will no longer be a true statement in a few months.)
SDRAM Makes it possible so you can just have ONE single stick of RAM, and it will work. Completes the electrical circuit.
DDR Acts like it's double what it says it is, adding to virtual memory, so it works faster.
Then there's Dual-Channel configuration (The way you have the sticks in your system board.)
Suppose you have 1 GB of RAM, And both sticks are DDR.
DDR Adds another GB To your virtual memory, on top of the physical memory. So your Task manager will say something around 2 gigs.
Dual Channel (Which has been around for a while now,) Does the same thing, on top of that. Adding another gig.
Amount of ram has an impact on loading times (swap file).
The 1GB ram is almost 100% not the minimum requirement, more likely the recommended amount.

Dude pick up a cheap ati9800 or nvidia6600 off ebay either PCI-e or AGP dependin on what board u got, they less than £80, dunno in $ so dont ask lol.SLJ wrote:man how am i going to get another video card???? i am using a mx440 nvidia geforce 4 card
and also my 6800gs's are 256bit sorry, JUST make sure they are both 256bit, LE & GT versions are 128bit.
**Amd 64 3700+, 2 Nvidia 6800gs 256 sli, 2 gigs RAM**

yeah it does have an impact for sure, but speed of RAM increases loading time more then simply amount. Both of them have an impact but depends wich one got greater one.Bojan wrote:Amount of ram has an impact on loading times (swap file).

That's only unless your video card is very poor (like mine) that it will take such a large hit whenever AA is enabled..... It just boils down to (for lower end and mid range folks) whether you want performance or eye-raping goodies.
I'm just lucky enough that I can at least run around on 2x AA and 4x AF at 1024*768 on my current computer in NFS MW, sure it's not blazingly fast or even mildy fast (even with aa and af disabled) but at least it's balanced between looks and performance, hopefully I'll still be able to do the same when the NFSC demo comes around.
ASUS GeForce FX5500 ftw! (I'll be so damn happy when I finally get the money together to get the nice EN7950GT I want when I scrouge money around 'when' we move and I get a job and finally get to buy the bits and pieces for my custom computer I'm going to build)

I was wondering if there would be a lot of difference in performance b/wThe Gravedigger wrote: ASUS GeForce FX5500 ftw! the 7900 GTX and the 7950 Gx2

The 7950GT is in between the 7900GT and 7900GTX for performance, so you have nothing to worry about. However, the 7950 GX-2 would have been the better buy for yourself though as it is 'sli on a stick' but it costs quite the pocketfull...
One thing I hope is that the 1gig of RAM isn't going to be wasted doing useless features.

and what's the idea???adeemnisar wrote:Just though Id post my specs:
P4 3.0 GHz with HT
1GB DDR RAM, 400 MHz, PC 3200
128MB nVidia GeForce PCX 5300
Just to show your pc and generate opinions like: This guys is posting his specs...and what i care for them??....
come on dude, u have a high-end processor --> 70% of the game is going to run perfect.
1gb-->20% more....
128 video card-->10% ok
so
100% of possibilities that the game can run in ur PC dude....

If you look for a basic upgrade I would recommend X1600 PRO. I run all the graphics in max but I don't have much RAM, I have only 512MB, and the game go slow
in my pc nfsmw works graet, i run it on 1024x768 and the best qulity in the game...prince1142003 wrote:Honestly, I couldn't run Most Wanted even at 640x480 very smoothly when I had a Radeon 9200. The 9250 isn't very much better than that, so I would think you'll need an upgrade.
iv'got 1 ram.
