Isn't that just the bastid son of the Carisma, the worst car ever made?
Umm... not as far as I know. It is considered a good car by the public and car magazines. Not sure what the carisma is, but the 380 is a large Australian made car that was the replacement for the Magna, another car that was a high achiever in the Australian market. Good stiff chassis... steers well. Fun to drive on the great ocean road, felt well built and the engine was responsive. Only gripe is that the gearbox holds onto gears for too long, but then you can just do tiptronic mode.
Nah, it's the bastid son of the American Galant.
Styling only though... apparently.
My dad took a test drive yesterday. It was better than I expected...
Yeah, doesn't feel like a massive fat car which is FWD and has a fair bit of power going through the front wheels (for a FWD). Which is good, because it'd be crap otherwise. Unfortunately, it does have the rear vision of a supercar... ie, none. No joke, The bottom of my rear window lined up with the bottom of the car behind me's windscreen when I was parking and there was over half a meter between us. Hard to park and keep track of it''s bits.

And about the car. Learn to drive, then buy the car. Simple. Once you can handle a car, then step up. A turbo 4 isn't that easy to drive though compared to a smooth big V6. The response isn't as refined. I like big engines... just leave your foot at that one spot and the needle stays where you want it... twitch the foot and off you go. The instructor's elantra was a b!+(# to drive because you had to put the foot to the floor to go anywhere.
But yeah, start with something easy to drive... either a small agile thing with a zippy, but not monstrous motor... civics are still fun, but if you want RWD, AE86! Or a slow NA S13 or skyline. Or a regular domestic cruiser, maybe the slightly "sporty" variant. But I would not go turbo/high-po unless you trust yourself and your parents half trust you, and you are seriously cashed up.

No, it's almost the exact same car.

U sure? Isn't the Galant 4cyl? Mid-size, so on a completely different body? Diff suspension? It hasn't got that one piece side construction?

The Galant is also available with the same V6 that the 380 gets.
And yes it is a mid-size car. The US definition of 'large' is bigger than a 380.

Galant is smaller, and that V6 makes it into other models too.

WTF? Mid sized car... WTF are they smoking? Tha's what confused me, because it is a large car in Australia... wait, so then in that case an accord is small, a lancer is a super-mini and then what is a Colt? I'm confused as to how a 380 is not a large car, when only SUVs and LWB cars are bigger... Where does the "sport" in SUV actually come in... there's nothing "sport" about them.

And the 380 is related to the Galant, but it's very diff.
Compared to the Galant, there have been changes to 70 percent of the car to create a car more suited to the Australian market.[11] Roads, legislation and consumer preferences were all driving forces behind the changes.[12] The rear of the floorpan had to be overhauled to accommodate a full-sized spare wheel, and superior rear sidemembers were required to improve towing capabilities. Body rigidity was also improved due to Australian road conditions. This improved body stiffness then brings advances to vehicle dynamics, which are also supported through the use of a sophisticated suspension designs, new shock absorbers and stabiliser bars.[13]

The 380 is a sedan only, and is powered by an all-new 6G75 3.8 litre V6 engine.

In other words, they just beefed it up and made the spare wheel well bigger. Whoop-de-doo.

Geez! We've strayed a bit haven't we!?

Anyway, the original topic is dead, so in the present debate I agree with Baumaxx that it's confusing, but rational thinking says that boganbusman is right.

Umm... if you read the mag on the 380, there was more development than just cloning the Galant. They are related though, and the Galant is the American 380.

I want a Nissan 240sx.

So don't start with 'More high performance cars than you've seen' with me. I've SEEN more high performance cars in person than you have anywhere.

Speaking of clones, the Pontiac GTO and the Vauxhall Monero.

I'd seriously doubt that. I go to a lot of Porsche meets.

Possibly because they're actually the same car.

Exotic cars arent too big in my part of America. It's a bunch of idiots with Monte Carlos seeing how big they can get their rims to be because they have to compensate for ''other things''

First, is it necessary to have tones of empty lines in between each of your sentences?

As for the "car entrepreneur" part, I highly doubt that your dad created his own private car company that manufactures unique cars (since that is what a car entrepreneur is).

Lastly, I highly doubt you could have a car like a Lamborghini LP640 Versace Edition or an Enzo Ferrari since they are both sold out. Lies aren't good for you  And unless you prove me wrong by posting a picture of yourself holding a sign with your name handwritten on it in front of one of a Ferrari/Porsche/Lambo with a document that proves you own it, I am not going to believe you.

And I think that's enough e-Viagra for you.

And not to mention that if I were in your shoes it's not that you want a cheap ricer over a considerably better built European car (I sure wouldn't given the choice)...

It's just that you can't afford one...

Yeah... that's because they are both re badged and re kitted versions of the original Holden Monaro.

Well now that depends. If I wanted a well distributed, lightweight and torquey sports car, Id buy the 240SX. If I wanted a crappy, Skoda knock-off interior matched with an exterior ugly enough to make passers-by want to pull out their own eyes, and an engine that sounds like its powerful until you realise just how much the car weighs, then Id buy a Golf. Any Golf, theyre all horrible.

Way too miss the part where I said I DONT WANT ONE.

Jeez, for a site about CARS, you guys seem to have something against people DRIVING CARS.

EDIT: Almost forgot, you also have something against people getting the cars they want, so you tell them to get the car you want, because you cant afford it.

And I love how the guy from Australia thinks he knows how things are in America.
