Wassup guys.

Im going into the drift scene once I get my drivers licence in 2 more years.. im 16 now.
So now, Im going to do my research on which cars to get.

I got some choices though, Nissan 180SX S13, Nissan Silvia S15, AE86 Sprinter Trueno.
Give me some info like which is the cheapest, most expensive, their prices, etc.

If you guys got some other choices tell me, but not those expensive cars please. =DD

I suggest you start of with a FWD car and when you become a pro then swich to a RWD

Learn to drive. You can not start drifting right after you got your license, your first corner would wreck your car.

No i meant that he needs to learn to drive in a FWD and then Drift in a RWD

Any real drivers out there? I really need opinions on those 3 cars, Silvia S15, AE86, 180SX S13.

i'd suggest an old bmw to learn how to control a rear wheel drive.

Okay okay. Lets say this. I need opinions on those 3 cars as a long-term car. I will know what to drive at first when I get my licence.

And drifting here usually are on a carpark as seen on those pics, maybe it will take me a year or so to take it on the track.

So are there any opinions now for all the 3 cars?

I suggest you don't. Drifting is just a fad at the moment, people will get bored of it.

I know its like that and in Singapore itself we only have less than 50 drifters and Im trying to build up that community.

And I bet the next post will have nothing to do with those 3 car choices.

Long term as in what? Drifting and everyday driving?

Yea. Not as in cars I need to learn RWD or FWD, RR or FR. Just a car once i get used to all types.

u can choose the AE86 but it's old.Maybe try the Silvia S-15 or the 180SX(it will look c00l with some mods)

I would take the 180SX. And wouldn't drift, but that's me.

Yea I am thinking of buying the 86 when worst come to worst. I know its cheap but can be good once modified..

You have any proximity on how much it cost roughly?

an ae86 is slow so a turbo will be the first thing i put on it

I might as well voice my opinion here, as I was in the drifting scene for a couple of years, to the point where I actually competed at Silverstone. First, some corrections...

- You CANNOT drift a FWD car, at all. Just the same as you cannot drift an AWD car either. Powersliding is not drifting.

- An AE86 is slow compared to what? The non-existant car that you dont drive? Please, dont influence others with ill-informed 'expertise'. I dont care if you want to lie about owning a car to look cool, thats your decision, but dont act like you know what youre talking about to the less-informed. Thats when ricers are born.

- The suggestion of an old BMW is a fantastic idea. The whole idea around drifting is to use cheap cars, as the cars take a lot of abuse. Thats the main reason you see a LOT of S13s of various description in drifting, b/c theyre cheap, the parts are cheap, and theyre (relatively) easy to fix. A BMW covers all that criteria, as well as being RWD and a lot of fun to drift. Theyre a little unorthodox until you get used to them, but great nonetheless.

Now, onto your suggested cars...

AE86:
Not a bad little car, particularly if you grab the silver-top 4A-GE which has 20valves instead of the usual 16, and also makes 160bhp instead of 112bhp, with a similar increase in torque. However, my major gripe with them is their cult status. No Japanese car from the early 80s is worth £5000, I dont care what it is, let alone a poor-quality attempt at a sports car. The only salvageable thing about the car is the engine, which again is only worth something if its the 20v.

Summary: difficult to drift, under-powered, over-priced.

Silvia S15:
Way out of the league of the other cars mentioned. Uses a revised SR20DET engine (which was also found in JDM S13s, along with S14s/S14As and Pulsar GTi-Rs). The car makes close to 220bhp, has great weight distribution (important for holding drifts), and comes with an LSD as standard. However, as great a machine as they are, youre not getting one. Group 20+ insurance, upwards of £8000 to buy a decent Spec-S (add £2k if you want a spec-R), and youre 16 years old. Its not happening. Also, to use such an expensive car for drifting is for the seriously rich/stupid only.

Summary: Fantastic cars, but youre still not getting one. Ever.

S13 180SX:
This all depends on which one you mean. The 180SX obviously is the JDM car, but year, as well as trim dictates what this car will be. The earlier 180SXs used a T25-quipped SR20DET, while the later years used the same T28 that was found on the S14. However, the 180SX was also available as an N/A, with K, Q and J spec available (K was turbocharged). However, at a guess Im going to say you mean the RPS13, which is basically my car with an SR20 engine.

If so...by far the best choice. Available for less than £2000, with insurance being the same as any of the DOHC VTEC Hondas. Fast, reliable and relatively economical (until you start modifying...dont talk to me about fuel bills). The main thing is, theyre cheap, reliable and easy to fix. Parts are very cheap, theres always plenty in the breakers yard for second hand bits, and I guarantee you theyre more fun to drive than the other two combined.

Summary: If you dont buy one, youre an idiot.

With all these cars, youre going to need some pretty hefty work to make it drift-ready, and a decent amount of money kept on one side for when things break, which they will, and often. Even as a bare minimum, youre looking at springs/shockers and an uprated diff (or welded depending how tight you are).
