First of all, when it comes to HDTV there's four major HD resolutions:

720i
720p
1080i
(full HD) 1080p.

Which is the reason why it may not look right. 1080p is 1920x1080 pixels, which is why the resolution you're looking for may not be right. It all depends on whether your TV is Full HD or just 720p. That's the diagnosis. As for how to fix it, I don't know.

How do you find out the resolution of it?

Well most full HDTVs have a sticker that says "Full HD" on them. Apart from that, I don't know. Perhaps google the model name?

Look up the specs of the TV, either in the manual or online. You should be able to find the exact resolution.

Probably your image resolution is being stretched or squished to fit your television resolution. so yea, find out the devices true native resolution and make sure the settings on your pc are correct. And If Im correct, DVI should be fine, you dont need HDMI for that tele, but I may be wrong. Good luck.

Well you can get HDMI to DVI cables for your PC. Plus most (read: all) HDTVs don't have a DVI socket....

However, most (read: all) use PC RGB inputs, so a DVI adapter on the PC would be just fine considering his graphics card......

That still doesn't help rx7 because none of those TVs are NECs...

And by RGB do you mean Component? Cause I've tried that and a) it doesn't give a better picture than AV (yellow, white, red) and there's no sound...

No no, RGB is the standard pc output. most graphics cards have 1 analog rgb and a dvi or just 2 dvi outputs. So he Should just be able to output the desired resolution from an RGB cable.

#-o There's a difference between RUNNING the resolution and the resolution being TOO SMALL for the TV... if it doesn't look right then your TV must be a 1080i/p.

Check that there isn't a mode in your TV called something like 'exact pixel mapping'?
