Favourite things to do in SHIFT

Post by Bojan »

I'm doing an article about the best things to do in SHIFT. So far I've got stuff like corner mastering, car reviewing, beating friends best lap times at career events etc.

What I'd like to know is, what do you like doing most in SHIFT? What (if anything), makes you start the game even though you already won all the career events.

Racing at Nordschleife. :D

Really, the track is so well designed in SHIFT that sometimes I just pick up a stock car like the VW GTI and take it for a ride. Alone, without giving a flopperwopper to the lap time, just for the pleasure of the ride. That's what I do mostly in SHIFT now.

Apart from that, I really like to master corners, get all epic badges and win all stars in all events. Unfortunately I've done that already, so I spend some time tuning certain cars and working on a custom "racing paintjob".

Heh, I was thinking to start the same topic. Great minds and fools eh?

For me the biggest thing in Shift since completing it is racing online, especially in ranked manufacturer races where everyone has the same car and everyone is usually far enough into the game that they can actually put a lap together fairly well.

Lately too I've begun being more interested in Mixed online races, but of course the key here is the have the cars and the setups working for you in each of the rating 4, 6, 10, 14 and Unrestricted categories. Starting at the bottom I 've managed to put together some strong cars in the rating 4 and 6 slots and have been getting to know the tight tracks with them, like Horse Thief Mile and Autopolis Lakeside.

After a session in the slow cars, I like to open it up with a few Zonda R or MC12 manufacturer races at Nordschleife or Autopolis GP.

Checking out how will car X look with Works Conversion.
seriously, Escort Cosworth looks just so funny after it.
also just buying and selling cars for the sake of "what rating will the car have upon max possible tuning"
since you get 100% return, you CAN'T lose money forever in shift.

I enjoy trying to get Epic badges, some of them are pretty tough to obtain. Online Drifting is fun sometimes, especially when it's super competitive. Completing every race in Career looks like my next feat.

i also like to run Endurance races on OVAL tracks, because even if someone gets far to the front he still can mistakenly hit or get hit by other players, may make the race very funny when you dont know who is which place

just figured out another thing.
i love racing alot laps on a short track like alpental, with a slow car...say... STOCK 240SX, every opponent same car. since the car is so slow, there is no place for errors because if you land on the sand or wall you are basically going to try to catch up to them all the rest of laps and lose anyway...

well... slow cars, maybe... but if you actually try to do the same with tier 3+ cars, the opponents seem to brake at places you don't usually do, and some places, they seem capable of going at full speed, while if you do the same, you'll run off-track, so you're forced to slow down...

a few of the races, I risk "cutting track, lap time will not count" to actually get ahead...

the best place to do so is in Spa =b I just did the 10-lap Spa Endurance race... and I was 1st place until the FINAL lap where I did a MAJOR screw up and ended up being 3rd, with 5 seconds behind... didn't feel like restarting the WHOLE race, so tried to catch up as much as I could, and at the double chicane before the final hairpin, i just went FULL speed, and drove STRAIGHT =b

not only did I catch up, I passed the 1st place, and won by 3 seconds

what I'm doing now, is trying to get ALL clean races and Master ALL corners trophies... which have only Nurburgring and its 3 variants left now...

Ugh, guys do that online and it bugs the hell outta me. Donington Long is another one they cut. Usually however the guys that cut corners are also the ones that can't take them, so I usually go by them at the next turn.

this is the main reason i fear going online...im driving keyboard so its slightly harder here and there and also those retards who cut certain corners...

Wow, those are my two least favourite things to do in the game, but that's cool.

Recently I've been having a ball with hotlapping cars with no ABS turned on!

I've been online two or three times, but for some reason I don't trust SHIFT gamers like I do those in the GT community. I'd love to get online more and this would certainly become one of my favourite things to do, but I keep having visions of 10 year old kids in Bugatti Veyrons @ Alpental, LOL.

Wow,

now i'll try to do that - mastering corners things. I've been racing shift on no assist and pro handling. And i have turned off the "best line" option, too. i like driving tier 1 stock cars on different tracks and 'feel' the turns of the tracks and then i'd get on my skyline and try to do the same drive tech on the lap. and this is how i learn most of the tracks.
