My Skyline - Repainted

<< My Grip Skyline - New Version #1Grip Eclipse >> by RedCarDriver

Basic info

Need for Speed ProStreet
Car: 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34)
Date added: Thursday, 13. March 2008
From garage: ProStreet: Grip Garage
Description: I decided to repaint my main car (my Grip Skyline R34) to make it cooler. I took inspiration from my Carbon Skyline and made the vinyl job look somewhat like it. The lack of a gradient vinyl made it tough, though, so I used the Graphics vinyl #22 (which I apparently overuse, as I apparently have used it on at least 5 of my cars) to create a fake gradient. In general, I think it turned out pretty well.

If anyone wants, I can post my original Carbon Skyline as well.

EDIT: This is it:

Style- 4 (Cool race car, and a simple, functional layout)
Creativity- 4 (Not amazing or incredibly innovative, but the colour combo is vivid.)
Execution- 3 (I feel the 15 on the side fouls the arospeed decal, and also find the Carbon version better overall.)
Consistency- 3 (Hood says hard tuned, but I feel the side and back need more decals.)

Overall- 7 Not bad, but there's better.

And before you ask for an apology, I am NOT sorry.

The car is a 5-minute job, the hood decals are indecipherable (looks like a big blob), agree with baumaxx about the #15... hell, the decals ought to be in white.

Still, the good thing is the colour combo. The Skyline is a monster in nearly every grip course, and put a couple of hours into that tomato and it'll look like something that looks good, eats Ryo and spits out the pieces.

Wow, I actually did put more time into it than my drift RX-8 and even that got better ratings from people - AND this was designed to be my main car. lol.

(RX-8 time: about 25 mins - almost all done in one session.)
(Skyline time: about 40-45ish, or more... I took breaks occasionally and worked on it slowly as well, so that amount of time is for the initial vinyl job - I may have put an additional 20 mins or so into it.)

The reason I didn't put decals along the sideskirt like I did in Carbon was... well, I couldn't. It was an autosculpt bumper and the decals came out distorted. And if you're wondering "Then why didn't you use the widebody kit?" I personally think the widebody kit for the Skyline in ProStreet is the worst one they could have carried over from Carbon - even the odd-looking #3 and boring #1 would have been better.

As for the "#15": I don't know why I did that on my first car, or this one, or any other, for that matter. Heck, look at my original paint job for this car (not the Carbon one, the other ProStreet one). Where else was I supposed to put it or anything? (I just didn't have anywhere else that it would fit.) Or, I could have left off the Arospeed decal, but that would have probably been worse.

Hood decals: Yeah, I decided to change it from the decal job I used for the hood in Carbon, to that. Although it was done so I could put on more engine-tuning-type decals, I'm regretting that a bit now.

Lack of other decals: Because the side would have looked messy / crowded if I had put some on there, I didn't; but I could have put some on the "side rear" windows (the ones behind the ones on the doors, but not the rear windshield).

Thanks for the constructive criticism though... I thought I did a pretty good job here - guess not. I'll keep this sort of stuff in mind when I make my next car - apparently simpler is better in a way.

By the way, which do you guys like better - the original version of my Skyline's paint job, or this one? Just asking...

I actually prefer this colour combo, more vivid.

And hey, if you're keen to improve, I'm cool with that. After all, I've seen worse...

Try not to clutter the car up with nonsensical numbers and make the decals easier to see. Yeah, you could add the rear quarter panel decals, also make the hood decals smaller. It doesn't matter if it overlaps the vinyls; hell, i do that all the time.

Just work on the car and you're going to be perfectly all right in this community. I'm no pro, just speaking from two years' worth of experience.

Thanks man. I personally don't think I'm going to work on this car any more (sorry, but this is my main car for actual grip racing and thus if I add more decals, it might lag my framerate or something - and also, like the other one, I made this one more for me to drive rather than the showroom, but more for the showroom than the other one) but I'll keep in mind what you've said for the next cars I make. I might work on this one more, but I'm not planning to any time soon. But, do expect more cars from me in a few weeks.
