NFS 4 HS graphic problem

Hi I got a problem with my NFS4 that I recently recovered. I've got windows 98, GeForce FX5200 (yes I know it's a crappy card) and 512mbs of RAM. I can't run the game on D3D... only software. If I run it under D3D it doesn't show the menus properly, everything is black, I can't even get to play it. ...
