Re: SHIFT: Still Playing?
Still playing, and will play for a long time too. If patches fix the big issues, even more so. Heck, I even play NFSPorche and NFSUG every now and then... (the ones completely forgotten are Carbon and Undercover).

Re: SHIFT Patch Details Announced
Looks promising. Appears to be fixing quite a bit game mechanic issues. Hopefully they'll address the non-critical things next, like the vinyl system.
Ps. Car handling fixes just might "force" a restart if severe enough for me anyway... we'll see

Yup, most likely the 3870 wasn't available anymore. Good of them to replace it with an "equal within a series" card, though the card actually is quite a ways better.

Well admittedly I had to Google the acronym, but nevertheless I can safely say I've never had any trouble with the Rubber Makers Association.   "A Return Merchandise Authorization or Return Material Authorization (RMA) is a transaction whereby the recipient of a product arrange...

Wohoo, the best RMA case ever!
Little over a month ago I rma'd an Asus EAH3870 graphics card (totally dud, pc didn't even start). I got the notice to pickup the replacement for it a few weeks back, but since it was on my older secondary machine I was in no hurry to pick it up. But I did today, and what do you know! The replacemen...

Re: All Car On Nordschleife (update Tier 2)
Yeah, that's close to what I do except I add to that the car tuning aspect of it. Driving a lap or two "slowly" and then increasingly faster to see how the car handles at the limits (understeer/oversteer/grip/ability to absorb bumbs), if the gear ratio is optimal (max top speed vs good acc...

Re: All Car On Nordschleife
I couldn't see how I would be able to push 7 minutes with this thing. Maybe there is something that can be done with this car tuning-wise that improves it greatly, I don't know... Most definitely, especially if you are using little or no assists (abs, tcs, etc). For example the TT (with no assists)...

Re: SHIFT Milestones
Agreed. Doesn't matter how good ones controller is if one can't drive worth s#!t. but a bad controller (ie. keyboard) will limit even the most experienced "computer" driver. As far as milestones go, I've got nothing but milestones left since I'm only about 50% in to the game (level 27 atm)...

Re: help!! looking for best car
Indeed, but I was answering to a specific question (tt problems on bumpy sections). On the other hand. By definition, a good setup CANNOT be the same for all tracks if you really want to shave your lap times.

Re: help!! looking for best car
It can be tuned to compensate that.... Care to submit your setup ? Still looking for optimal, so not quite yet... But, to address instablity at bumbs and crests I suggest the following (for TT, perhaps for others aswell): Rule of thumb: softer springs give greater grip and a more forgiving chassis....

It can be tuned to compensate that.... the default settings are far too snappy/low.steelsnake00 wrote:The TT may be fastest, but on a track with lots of crests and dips it bottoms out, usually sending you spearing off into the armco.

Re: Photo Mode Import to Showroom
Something wrong perhaps? When trying to import (Shift) I can see the thumbnails where I select what I want to import, but when I click I get an error:
Import a car from EA
Error cannot find your photo. Please restart the import process
Odd, since where did the thumbnail come from then????

Indeed. While racing, nothing. It actually helps too, being able to really hear engine revs, tire noise and what not to really push the limits.

Re: Drift Pain
That's just it. Winning isn't hard. Getting good looking, clean drift runs is. Agree about the assists; drifiting is the defintion of no-assist driving. Infact, having tried with stability control on, my force fb wheel kept fighting me all the time (you wan't to steer into the drift, wheel force wan...

Re: Drift Pain
I do wonder why EA made the drift mode so super sensitive/twitchy. Just for the fun of it, try drifting around a corner (with a car tuned for drifting) in normal race mode. Works like a charm, and is far more predictable than in the actual drift mode.

Yup, worked fine for me too (with 1.3 installed).
Resolution hack also works... The game looks pretty good on a 42" Full-HD TV at 1920x1080.

Re: SHIFT Drift Tutorial
I would also add that a proper controller plays a big role in this game mode. As throttle control is the Key to drifting it means this game mode is all but unplayable if one doesn't have an analog controller (pad or pedals) for throttle. Other game modes are more tolerable, but drifting...is unforgi...

That's normally if the problem's persistent though? This was a one off, but i still worried. True. Most likely just a random boot time failure that caused the cmos settings to corrupt (even a single bit of difference in the cmos data will render the checksum invalid), which then kicks in the "...
