DirectX Problem

My new high speed internet access software installed DirectX 8.0 on my PC; now my NfS PU crashes on start-up with some strange DirectX 8.0 error message. Re-installing didn't work; after installation of NfS, message box came up telling me that a DirectX version higher than 7.0a was detected. How do I get PU to work under DirectX8.0?? I believe my internet access software needs DirectX 8.0...

DirectX should be compatible with the previous version... Maybe you should try installing the latest version - DirectX9.

When I installed DirectX 8.0, I got to update the video board controllers in order for the NFS games to work.
