I think I'm going to pick one up for my new computer when I get paid tomorrow :)
Normal nVidia or one of the overclocked versions?

Oh, and I'm after a bit of help with a decision, trying to help a friend choose good parts for his custom computer we're going to build. (but it will be his :') )
For the video card I'm tossing up on the XFX 7900GT.

LOL, I stuffed that one up.... meant to say, I'm tossing up between the XFX 7900GT, and the Galaxy 7900GT (price, verses power except in reverse)

Yeah, but I can't crank everything up. I'm overclocked at 330 MHz and 550 MHz right now.

I really wanna play FEAR at max with no lag....

Get ready to put down quite some money then because my 6800GT has a hard time too.

I'm willing to spend no more than $300.

I'm looking at the NVidia GeForce 7800GS.

Meh. I have no PCIe slot in my MoBo, so I'm going for a AGP.

You should get a 7900GTX. That'd set you back. Or a Quad SLI.

7900GTX = PCI-E only ...

$325 for the normal ones (Canadian dollars, remember) ... The overclocked versions are going for about $400, which is a fairly large difference in price ...

If you are willing to spend $300 I would suggest this.

EVGA 7800GS 256M AGP 256-P2-N505

You have to buy really the most expensive stuff to run FEAR on max with "no lag".
I have a quite good system and if i have everything on max at 1024x768 it WILL LAG.
If i leave off the AA and AF then there's practically no lag.
The fps won't drop under 30 in that case.

I still highly doubt it.

I can do that too.. It's not only about resolution, but all other options too.

It depends on what you're used to, a friend of mine recently told me that FEAR was running fluently at 1280x1024 highest settings on his computer(Sempron 64-bit 3000+,512MB Ram, Ati Radeon X800GT), I looked at it and thought it was a slideshow...

Instead of saying it runs without any lagging, maybe you could give us the average framerate so we can get an idea of what you call without lagging.

Anyways, I play FEAR at 1024x768 custom settings (no AA or AF, everything set relatively high) on my rig with a framerate of always >35 (topping at 55)

Don't know, but it only froze now and then. Everything looked like it was at highest.

For me, a fluent First Person Shooter is about 60 Frames Per Ssecond or so.

I don't believe him anyway.. Impossible to run a normal 6800 with max settings on 1280x1024.

I think he's talking about performance.. -.-

Not sure which one is better, I mean, who actually compares cards from different generations in reviews?

I'd go for the GeForce just 'cause it's NVidia....
