I don't see how it would. You're just spinning your tires as if you're driving, you're just not going anywhere. But if you're talking about friction/resistence, I'd say there's probably not enough to do any damage.

Well, there's resistence when you're driving anyway, and when you're peeling out, (From what I've seen) the car tends to slide a round a bit, so there can't be too much traction.

The transmission usually copes alright, but your engine and diff really take some punishment.

The clutch takes the biggest kick, followed by the diff, and then the box. Depending on the clutch/diff depends on the amount of abuse your car as a whole will take.

For what its worth, although not technically a burnout, any sideways action can kick the sh*t out of the suspension.

i saw a light pickup (F150) with a inline 6 try to do a brakestand and it was the funniest thing in the world the rearend just started bouncing like it was on a trampoline...........that truck was a piece of shiznit
