My very old thread on this. Notice me being on top of every list, because the 6800GT was THE SHIAT back then.

Re: Whats your 3Dmaark score.
I get 35743 on 3Dmark 03 with gfx card OC'd to 680/1900/1750 (overclocked the shaders separetly)
But on the stock i get 34247.
I can try to get a score with 720/2000/1900 but i don't see the point. Also i am not gonna download 500mb for 3d 06.

Damn, my score went up over 1,600 points just from the burn-in...
6661 3DMarks
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600
2GB OCZ Platinum
80GB Maxtor Sata @ 3Gb/s transfer rate
BFG 7600GT OC (600/740)

It's impossible to raise your score just by ''burning-in'' your CPU, with no further changes in setup.

Re: Whats your 3Dmaark score.
Not true... it is very possible with a new processor. You can often get 200-300 points, so multiply that by four. Plus, I did longer burn-in's than most people... hence why I got slightly more.
Re: Whats your 3Dmaark score.
Are you trying to tell me that a burned-in CPU is faster than one that isn't burned-in, both at the same clockspeed?
At most, burning-in gives you a little more headroom to overclock. Either it's lower temps or some unknown reason that enables you to push it a little further.

Re: Whats your 3Dmaark score.
The scientific explanation is that it is supposed to open up the pathways by making them expand... it hasn't been legally proven or dis-proven, but 90% of all trials have shown positive results.
Re: Whats your 3Dmaark score.
Burning-in at most lowers your temperatures by speeding up the process of curing your thermal compound.
Burning-in doesn't improve your CPU's performance per clock.
There is no scientific explanation, there only is an internet theory.
Neither can you prove it worked with your CPU, unless you prove that you ran 3DMark in EXACTLY the same situation as your previous run with the lower score. Have you defragged your HD, have you changed any CPU/RAM settings, have you flashed your BIOS, have you updated your OS, have you installed anything, has your roomtemperature changed, etc.
I have extensively loaded my CPU with all sorts of programs, hoping that I'd be able to push it further. I might've gotten a few more MHz out of it, but it didn't perform better at the same clockspeed. In short: It's BS.
Do you know what burn-ins were originally meant for? Components were factory burned-in to discard anything that'd fail too quickly. Also, here's a quote from another thread:

Why would it only work with a BRAND new processor? Why wouldn't it work with one that's a little older? Don't you think that running a brand new processor over extensive periods of time would give you the same endresult? That theory is flawed.Carcrazy wrote:A little bit over 1,000 points... you can often get 200-300 extra points from it, since I have a quad core, you can multiply that by four.
It only works with a new processor... it really only works if it's a BRAND new processor.

Re: Whats your 3Dmaark score.
Either way, real or not... stressing the CPU will ALWAYS raise your score with a brand new processor. Same thing as breaking-in an engine...
There's really no point in continuing this... we both have our different ideas, so we might as well just honor each other's, since neither of us are ever going to win, (at least not unless one of us can afford an electron microscope...)

Re: Whats your 3Dmaark score.
An engine is a complex mechanism. A CPU is an electronic device.
No you can't compare them.
