Then let me tell you what i can do with my PS2.
I have the upgraded version
I have a HD in it,
A network adapter,
Upgraded memory,
I can watch DVD's with it and play games
With the upgraded version you have automaticly a better cooling fan and processor and videocard
If i want i can install windows XP on it so it's a compleet PC wich can Play DVD's and PS2 games. But i am not gona do that because i already have a PC and i have done the same with my Xbox but didn't installed windows on it so it's still a console not a PC
Oh and the part off a low rate monitor. That parts is simple to explain you have a shiznit TV or else your screen is perfect.

back on subject, talking about cost spend $500 on a computer, $20.00 for internet each month 50.00 for 1 game your looking at $570.00 not including if you were to upgrade the computer. console if you buy it new $200.00 about $100.00 more if you get the networking pack and $20.00 for it each month and $50.00 for a game (or like me i got a game stop card and get 10% off) your looking at $370.00. dare to compare.
LOL I don't know what kind of comp you have.... Mine wasn't 500da wizz21 wrote:back on subject, talking about cost spend $500 on a computer, $20.00 for internet each month 50.00 for 1 game your looking at $570.00 not including if you were to upgrade the computer. console if you buy it new $200.00 about $100.00 more if you get the networking pack and $20.00 for it each month and $50.00 for a game (or like me i got a game stop card and get 10% off) your looking at $370.00. dare to compare.
and 1000 and you are getting close.
what I ment was the cost of having a PC, PS2 Xbox and all that stuff..
and if you do a calulation do it right:
comp 500 (I wish)
1 game 50 (I always have more)
Inet per month 20 (I wish again) (40 easy)
that is 500+50+240 (a year has 12 months)=790 year
console is 590 a year. then
but then again you (normally, so am not talking about a huge conversion so you can add windows and all on you console, caus eif I want I can add it also on my cars naviagion system....wich is as utterly useless as doing it to a console.) you can't do anything but play games and movies on it.

PC runs better, you always can upgrade it, and consoles not.
PC screens are better (1600x1200 in 17" or 1024x768 in 15"), while a GOOD TV screen is 1024x768 with 32" LOL.
It is much more easy to get free games in PC.
In PC you dont disturb your family if they are watching TV.
Using PC you can upload cars and discuss in forums like nfsunlimited.
Console games are frequently more expensive.
Consoles dont allow you to make screenshots.
PC allows you to listen another music with winAmp or another player. Console users need to carry their portable-shiznit CD/cassete player beside the TV.
You can play close to the screen when using PC. But if you use the console, mum will tell you not to play so close to the screen.
With PC you type your game name decently. With consoles you spend 10minutes to find each character.
Using a console requires to carry all the accesoires each time you want to play. The PC is always in the same place.
To play online in PC with a friend, you just minimize the game and use MSN to talk with your friend about which room you will join. If you are a console user, you must stand up, take the telephone/go to your friend's home and discuss that.
You can always mae a security copy of your PC games.
(Etc)
mm... Sorry, but I think I won't buy a PS2. The same with the incoming PS3.

cause you simply can't upgrade your PS, Xbox what ever in the same amouth as a PC.
and yes I know you can upgrade them.
but the fact remains is has some serious drawbacks.
- almost always can't add mods on a console.
- yes a console can have a HDD but you have to buy it!
- you can have a keyboard on some consoles by usb. but then again a lot of games don't suport it.... like nfsu
and a PC... if you do it right looks better then a console! (just look at that horrible cube and the standard PS2 is not a beauty also, the silver editon is pretty nice, I got a silver editon with a Phone I bought, but it did not fit in terms of style with the TV (other type of silver) and the rest of my audio configuration (all antracite)
so I sold it again.
Bu it had one advantage, cause the TV is in the middle of my livingroom, it used the audioset wich is simply better then the creative set I for my PC

I got everything in my room(i still live with my parents)
All my console's and PC's are hooked up on my stereo. I have to change the plug when i change from PS2 to Xbox. But that's ok and then that little thing with upgrading. You said a pc will always be better then a xbox or ps2. You may be right but let me says this. If you buy a new (good) pc you pay what 1500 to 2000 euro right. Now let me tell you what it will cost to turn your PS2 into a PC.
1st step you buy a PS2 €199.99(with memory card and two controllers)
2nd step you buy a USB keybord and mouse €39.99
3th step you buy a Hard Disk €67.99 and that's 80GB( with this you don't need memory cards anymore)
4th step you buy a networkadapter €32.99 or €35.99 and you get the game twisted metal black online with it
5th step you instal windows xp on it and your done, i think this is a cheaper PC then you have stig.
And one thing just like a PC you can case mode your PS2 and you can mod you mouse controller's keyboard and memorycards
And with the xbox is easyer because there is already a HD in it you only have to instal windows on it and your done.. Ok not compleetly you have to buy Xbox live and a mouse and keyboard.

I think all of that is a shoddy work. do you want a pc? just buy it!
Doing what you said is like turning a SUV into a house. Yes, it is cheaper: you spend 30.000$ in the car, then buy:
A kitchen accesoires: +1400$
A toilet system: +600$
A bed: +800$
(...)
But it will never be a house, LOL. Conclussion: IMO installing XP in a console is like intalling a toilet inside a car.
