World Leaderboards

Post by Paragleiber »

Hey guys!

I came across your site again because of that find a spot competition and I saw you have this World Leaderboards feature, which looks quite cool but I wonder how it works exactly.

www(dot)nfsunlimited(dot)net/world/leaderboards/127-MASON-STREET.html#,0,8

On that page it says: "Leaderboards updated hourly. Best lap time acquired from ranked online races in Need for Speed SHIFT."

I suppose it should be World and not Shift, so you should correct that one for sure. But is it true for World as well that only multiplayer races are counted or can I also do the tracks in single player mode to show up in these rankings?

Best regards!

Yea that's a typo which is now fixed. We track both single player and multiplayer races for NFS World. It might take more than an hour for your results to appear though as the loading process takes really long.

oe hour? idk if thats true but i tried to track my track record the next day and its still not there, is it just process getting slower or its just that my time isnt enough to beat them? (i did check their time and i came at the bottom 1/4 of that 1 track but was never on the leaderboards..

Your times or loading. some that loaded or to slow and or ranked as (0)http://www.nfsunlimited.net/world/user/ROUGEASSASSIN

Also several performance optimization have been done to the World time loader resulting in a different way the times are loading.

Once again times will be loading once per hour, but only for users who have visited the site in the past 24 hours. For everybody else we will only load times once per day - and even in that case, only the times done the previous day. That means that even if you don't visit the site often, all your times will still load.
But if you're a frequent visitor, we'll load your times hourly.

Another quick question: about ranking on itself, what makes your ranking go up (or down). Do you for example need Pursuit and/or Explore skills?

i think
it's just you earn points for your track time and your amount of total points is compared to others and you'll be placed in a ranking then.

(srry for the bad English, i'm not really awake )

ok yea, must be something like that...

Like old people always say: "In former days" it used to be simpler: you compete against others (real persons). Rep is gained per multiplayer and per race type and per finishing place. You sum the whole thing up and that determined your place in the ranking per race type. So why so complicated...? :)

Of course, it has big disadvantages, like 12 yr old kids having all day are climbing faster than others and so on

yeah you are already giving one problem,
but if they would apply that system, there will be more fights because "ramming, cheating" and yeah for someone who doesn't have much time it would suck....

yea time is always against us right

But I'm still trying to figure it out :) so for instance, lookup the stats of this guy http://nfs-s.com/nfsw/IIIFIRSTIII
For the record: I just picked out some1 to use as an example, not for any reason at all. Then take my rocking stats at http://nfs-s.com/nfsw/bauke777

The other guy only has 122 multiplayer wins. Of a total of 161, so he has a much higher win percentage than me. Notice the score of 85k, so multiplayer wins clearly isn't why he is ranked on 15th place. He has unlocked more events and skills and reached level 50.

BTW: the amount of DNF on singleplayer looks buggy (or mayb not)

yeah it's not the amount of wins,
it about the time record you made.

you see your to do list? break those times, and you'll get more points.
mp & sp win % and numbers are just to compare.

look at mine: http://nfs-s.com/nfsw/ALINE1996
my mp stats sucks, but my times don't ;) (yeah at some places they do -_-)

DNF doesn't always mean you ended more than 60 secs then #1 but also if you leave a race.

hey ok good 1! I've never looked at my todo list, got already lots of those at work :)

I'll give those times a shot. At least try to improve them. I must say I like multiplayers better, to race against other real persons. In SP you mostly beat the computer racers, so no fun there. It looks like I have to start using nitro then to attack the laptimes. I never used nitro as well, no honour to be gained :) But on level 20+ races are more difficult to win without nitro. I've seen too many chevelle's and mr2's from the back :) Too bad nitro is a power up, shouldn't be imho. Although I start using the Shield Power Up, I'm starting to get pretty annoyed by all the traffic magnets. But hey I'm getting off topic...

yep you were right =D> I did some runs yesterday and I climbed about 5000 places, even in the sylvia, just setting a time per track. So that must be it! At least, some of it, don't know if multiplayer wins actually count.

I'm indeed saving my nitro for higher levels, seems useless to use it at this level. I saved somewhere over 300 now, but when trying to get some good laptimes I'll run out of it soon enough. But no problem there, I have to get some speedboosts later anyways to buy a decent car. Might as well buy some extra nitro

I found out that lately I'm racing lots of Zonda's, Bentleys or VSpec's in my Escort. That didn't seem fair at all, I got my ass kicked a lot. Last weekend I tried a circuit which I haven't tried in the tier2 car. Rosewood Central. I had to race Evo's and 350Z's (or is is 370Z?), which didn't seem fair as well. Compared to my car I mean, but hey, I had good fun winning :)

What I wanted to say was: the multiplayer opponent-selection-thing apparently looks at your laptime per track. I always thought I was done by car or level. Maybe level doesn't even count that much

how the mp opponent selection works idk (it's fuzzy..)
but when you do Sp its just some Stock cars are selected, but they can reach a higher topspeed then when you buy them stock. in single player the computer adjust the cars to your skills.

btw i know the point when i get my mr2 for a race with i'm put in a lobby with murcs and gt3's :s

yea sometimes you're lucky and they pretty much suck because they started the game, and immediately buyed a good car. But if I beat them, it's mostly on track knowledge. The difficult races are those where they are level 30+ AND have fast cars.

Good EA tactics to frustrate the shiznit out of you so you buy speedboosts :) And I must say it works
