Computer upgrade confusion.

Post by PSZeTa »

Okay, so my current motherboard is a Socket A one.

Now I don't know if I should upgrade to Athlon XP 2800+ (will cost about 180 Euro's) or just upgrade the whole piece and change the motherboard to Socket 939 with PCI-X, which means I'll buy a Athlon 64 3500+ with it and a PCI-X videocard. (Together will cost about 800 - 900 Euro's)

I know the second upgrade is WHOLE lot more expensive, but it prepares me for the future. The 64 is more worth my money, and the render time is cut in half.

So what do you guys think? Go with the XP, or upgrade the whole system?

If you can afford it, then upgrade the whole system. Why not? :D

Well, I will be able to afford it.. It's almost Christmas, and I know the cash always flows in at that time. + I mostly get my birthday money with it too, since mine is at the 8th of January lol.

The videocard will probably be an ATI X800 Pro, and my current is a FX-5900 XT.

Wait some time....

I am running a p4 2.8ghz HT 1mb L2, 512mb@400mhz & gforce FX5200. I bought it in August.

Well the 1st thing I will change is the case and the gfx card. ATI x800 or maybe the gforce 6800 (Bojan just got a 6800LE :P)
