No, no, 30" screens are awesome. 2560x1600 resolution is crazy! But everything OVER 30" (excluding 30") is low res. But they all cost 1200€+. Because they don't have TN screens which are the most popular in smaller screens. I guess it might be because the screen is larger and if you look at the edges of the screen, you're looking from too sharp angles. And angles are TN's weak point.

That's true, because as far as I know anything over 30" is a TV, no one has made a monitor bigger than 30" (yet). And indeed these 30"s are expensive partly because they are not TN... Designed for professional graphic artists, thus being S-IPS or M-Va which are costly even in smaller sizes.

That HP looks awesome! and to think people drool over 720p "HD" when PC can have 2560 x 1600. PC>Console

1560x1600 is a square. What kind of monitor is a square?

It's not a square. It's almost a square. Big difference.

Lol... also don't forget you need a good computer to be on that resolution. ;)

True indeed, takes serious muscle to run games fluently at 2560x1600... But then again, I don't think too many people will buy these with just gaming in mind. Also, if one can afford a display at this price range, I would imagine getting a machine with enough juice isn't an issue either.

1080p on small screen ftw. End of story.

Got the new rig yesterday, spent the evening assembling it. Spent all day today copying stuff from my old pc.
Everything seems to work fine so far.
Although I've noticed the same problems with my X-fi sound card as I had with the old rig..
Damn you Creative!

Guess I'll run some 3dmark next... :P

What problem is that? I myself have X-Fi Platinum on Vista 64b, and have no issues with it.

That problem.
It's a problem that comes and goes.
Sometimes I get no crackling sounds for days, and even if I do, I often get rid of it by just switching between different modes a couple of times. But there are times when it just won't go away..

Oh yeah and I ran 3dmark Advantage on the new rig.

I have no idea if it's a good or bad result.

Right, well I don't have nforce chipset so...

Vantage score looks about right for that spec. I get about 7000 with crossfire off, and about 11000 with crossfire on (Phenom X4@2.8GHz, 2x 4850)

Do you have the latest drivers? The latest are from January this year, I think.

EDIT: Checked...

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series Driver 2.18.0008 (66.17 MB) 17 Dec 08
Creative SoundFont Bank Manager 3.21.00 (6.35 MB) 2 Feb 09
Creative Console Launcher 2.60.35 (59.18 MB) 7 Jan 09
Creative ALchemy 1.20.04 (18.69 MB) 1 Aug 08

RE-EDIT: These are for Vista 64b though.

I have Vista 64bit and I of course downloaded all the latest drivers when I installed the new setup..
It's bs that the problem is only for nforce mobos.
There's an endless amount of forum threads about the problem and people with all sorts of rigs have problems.
And there isn't a single solution that works for everybody.

Sorry I can't be of any assistance. There is one thing that comes to mind though.

I don't use analog outputs. I use single cable s/pdif out to an external sound system (Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 Digital), how could there be cracks and pops when the output is fully digital...

Old topic but there was really nowhere else to put it except may be Just Talk. I just bought myself a cheapy sound system that actually punches well above its price. Altec Lansing VS2421 2.1 sound system plus subwoofer for AU$99. Next in the works shall be a Logitech G9 mouse and a 320GB portable hard drive to back up/move some of my files and free up some space so my comp can run quicker.

I'm moving to Ajax, TO in July and I gotta rebuild most of my rig...gay.

So i'll be looking at

Q9400
4GB DDR2 800 RAM@900
Asus P5N-D 750i
Another 8800GTS G92 for SLi

Would be around 550-600 in CAN cause Canadian prices are gay.

I have a Q9450, and it works wonders.
4GB is great.
Don't know about the motherboard, I got a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
SLi 8800GTS = win.

I picked up quite a bit of stuff for my comp the last couple of days. I got a 500GB Seagate 5400RPM portable hard drive and I've started manually backing up all my data rather than Vista put it all into useless zip files for me, picked up DiRT, Test Drive Unlimited and Age Of Empires III, all of which run pretty good despite my outdated specs (although DiRT and TDU only get 22fps. They're not unplayable, its just that even with low detail that's the highest I can get....*sigh*) and I put in an order for the Logi G9 from good ol' eBay which should hopefully be coming by the end of the week. Oh and I picked up a 15 dollar wired PS3 controller which runs perfectly with the homebrew SIXAXIS PC plugins. Ka-ching!

Alright, since it's been ages since I've posted up or bragged about a system I use time to get it out of the way.

After winning the Alienware Clan Challenge 2010, an Australian based COD4 competition hosted in Sydney I was finally able to obtain a piece of Alienware technology for myself as the prize for it.

System case: Alienware Aurora
Motherboard: Alienware 04VWF2 (a micro ATX board with plenty enough room)
CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.07GHz
CPU Cooler: Alienware labeled Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50
RAM: 12GB (6X2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (from the looks of it, its nothing more than generic RAM but no complaints there)
Hard Disk Drives: Western Digital Raptor 10krpm 300GB + Western Digital 1TB + Seagate 500GB
Optical Drives: TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653G and a 9-in-1 Multimedia card reader (rather bland having only a 16x DVD+-RW in but no complaints on a free system)
Video Card: ATI HD5970 1GB
Keyboard: Alienware TactX™
Mouse: Alienware TactX™

Monitor/s: Alienware OptX™ AW2310 (1920x1080, 120Hz with 3D capabilities) + BenQ G2412HD (1920x1080, stock 60Hz refresh rate)

Audio: Logitech Z5500D 5.1 Surround System and a set of Audio Technica ATH AD900.

Just as an added bonus I'll throw in a picture of how my set up is, well how it was until about 2 nights ago when I decided to move everything around underneath and around my desk.
Image

Upgrades would be just for a dedicated audio card being the Asus Xonar Essence STX PCIE, tossing in a Blu-Ray drive and dropping the Seagate 500GB and replace it with WD6000HLHX Velociraptor and getting rid of my old BenQ monitor in favour of another Alienware OptX™ AW2310 so I can run games spanning both screens at 120Hz, combined resolution of 3840x1080. 8)
Oh and probably getting myself Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit as a little upgrade over the current Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit that's installed aha.
