PS ... here are my discoveries and tips on OS ... I've spent too many hours on this crap 8) Needless to say, those indications suit my miata, and won't do any good to RX 7 drivers and the likes, partly because any other car has a crappier handling than my sweet little ride, and partly because their speed will be either over or under mine at those locations. But I find they serve well as universal guidelines. As long as you adapt to them ... that is :p

Oh and ..finally .. if someone should wonder why my record doesn't show, it's because I restarted after having taken the screen, and the best time on the subsequent laps didn't beat my previous 41.01 .. so.

Hey, nice time's there Just Me - very competitive!! Welcome to the thread!! And look for your times posted on the next Wrap Up!! :D

And Summ - awesome work on the OS map, mate. Some great tips on there. I can also see where I've got it over you - your 'work in progress' area is my fave section of the track!!
Summ wrote:... I propose a little change in the rules... let's make it "legal" to post the best time from Free Run mode for the fastest lap...
Yup no probs there mate. A fast lap is a fast lap, no matter what. 8)

Now, remember I sent a note off to Jeff Reid - the wallmaster?? Well I have a reply...
Jeff wrote:> While trawling the net sometime back, I came across your NFSU videos

Skroting, aka Darth Dragger has made a complete set of videos,
but they seem to be down right now:

http://d570222.u31.surftown.nu

Note that some PC systems, usually the slower ones,
produce better lap times. For example, at Stadium, I have to
turn the front wheels a bit to keep from losing a lot of
speed on the 3 big drops, but on slower systems, or with fraps
setup to slow my system down, I can just go straight through
the drops with almost no loss in speed.

Also take a look at this video of Stadium, especially the second
bounce, I can occasionally get 170 mph off the first bounce, but
my car accelerates slower than IH8Skylines, his car gets to 190mph
much sooner than mine, ultimately reaching 194mph, while mine
maybe gets to 192mph, but slows to 190mph once I start turning
inwards, while his remains at 194mph. My best bounces there
end up around 173mph, but he can scrape there and get 184mph.
If I try to scrape there, my car still slows down to 170mph,
and usually more like 160mph.

Here's a link to IH8Skylines video (on my web site):

http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/stadium4.avi

Here is a video showing some stadium bounces:

http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/stadium3.wmv
Some interesting tidbits there huh? Intriguing about the slow/fast pc issue... I went and checked 'Skroting's site (heh - what a name!!) and yes, the vods are down. There is one still up, however, a drag down 14th & Vine in around 18.74sec!! It don't really fit here, so I'll post a link in the drag topis, but be sure and check it out... Ive also emailed Skroting to see if he can fix his links, but I ain't sure I'll get a response.

@ Summ and GT3x24x7

Well, seems I have to race a new profile to race 111! :D

But now I can savely say that my record with the Miata was without NOS and without TJ's!! :D

Because I finished the game with ( like 90% off all people) the Skyline.

But for the next profile I'll use the Miata (and the RX-7 for drag) because it handels better!! And then I'll give Stadium another go!.

Good for you dude! I'm in the same boat - I just started a new profile (well four actually ) so I can build cars with just the right TJ uniques for each style - circuit, sprint, drift, drag. Until then, I have a couple completed RX7 profiles with half the right stuff, and they're bringing in reasonable lap times, as you can see...

Thanks GT ... am a stubborn guy ... even for my age ... lol. I'm knocking my ass off trying to get back my spot in the sun on OS... I won't have peace till then ^^ :P

I guess I'll be making such notes on each track in turn once I'm done with OS ... for ... you know what purpose ;)

Four different profiles??

Nah, I only have 2 favorite styles in Underground.

Drift & Circuit.

In Drag races I always crash on the traffic a lot.
Sprint races are to short to be any fun.

I like the drift mode, and I'm slowly improving my skills. Personal High score is 899.725 or something

And Circuit of course, because now I wanna know how fast I can go with all TJ's!!!!

@JM: Yeh, I don't really care for drag and I ain't really touched sprint yet - I'm just thorough, so when I get an idea I figure why not go the full way! Don't plan on doing too much with anything but the circuit profile for a while, especially while the records are falling in here! :D

@Summ: LOL!! you do that dude! And your track tips are great - they'll really help thr competition in here. While you're dawdling around Olympic, I'll be off elsewhere, breaking records wherever they emerge!!

@GT3x24x7

Damm!!! Seeing how you're records are dropping my hands start to itch, and I'm watching the clock every 5 seconds now to see if I can go home from work!! :D

Because I forgot to post a screenie of a 5 lap race on OS with the RX-7 with a best lap of 41.97.

But when i find it I'll upload it tommorow(Paint at work can convert a BMP to JPEG. Paint on PC at home doesn't do it) , because that lap record was also without NOS and TJ's.

GT ... enjoy the spotlight as long as it lasts ... once I bust your sorry behind on OS, I come and getcha on the others too ;)

Ah! I know why that's happening - I bet you can't save pics from web pages to anything but BMP either huh? Your Internet cache is full. Empty it out, possibly reboot and all will be sweet again.

How? In IE, go to Tools|Internet Options and hit the Delete Files button on the General tab...

More communiques from Jeff are turning up the gold peeps!!

This zip has 3 NFSU savefiles will some good TJ combos, plus the TJ's are installed in all 20 garage cars, and all the visuals are unlocked, including Samantha's
visuals.

And here's another IH8SKYLINES video, this time he takes the 206 around Atlantica in 37.30s!!! It's an online time, but damn the footage is a gobsmacker nonetheless - worth the watch just to see the line he takes!!

Alright dudes .. I think I'm beginning to feel I have to resign on OS ... jesus .. I spent the better part of my afternoon trying to crack it, making 100 laps and this is about the best I could pull out of my behind ... :(
GT, this time was made without NOS usage, so I'd ask you to update my sore third place with it instead of the NOS one. I think it's still a time to be pretty damned proud of, considering it's a miata I drive. It's hard to surrender to the damned RX7 ... and I don't know if I quite will  but for now I'm beaten.

Eeehhh nope. Because if I try to save an image from a webpage Paint does give me option off BMP/JPEG. And I already tried your tip. Doesn't work either.

But when I try to save a screenie from any game for that matter, I can only save it as a BMP in Paint.

I think it's time for a Format C: and a re install. Or a new PC with XP instead of my crappy one with ME.

For the Dutch readers: Windows Meer Ellende dus

Translation: Windows More Misery!

EDIT:

@ Summ

Yeah, its a long way from 40.5xx But I only did 5 laps!! So maybey with alle the luck in the world and this know galaxy I can do it without TJ's

Off course I'm not gonna make it!! It was a joke!! I was laughing at my self!!

I think that 41.8xx would be max with out TJ's because I did a 41.97 (screenshot wil be here tomorrow)

If you could go that fast w/o TJ's then I don't wanna know how fast you could go with TJ's!

EDIT:

Well, can't seem to get the hyperlink right. But he, go have a look at my cars if you want off course, and tell me what you think them. Tips to improve are always welcome!

didn't snatch that one up ... but I tell you this ... am gonna try OS with a plain lvl 3 miata and post a time with it, ok? ;) Then we'll see how low you can get with TJ mods if you get that low without them.

Here it is then .. just as promised ^^ 41.91 ladies and gentlemen ... dudes and dudettes ^^. I guess that's around the apex for the plain lvl 3 miata. I conlude thus that there is a second of difference btw miata with ENG-ECU-TUR uniques and the plain lvl 3 miata, so if you could get down to 41.8x it still wouldn't be enough to catch those two RX7's that are ahead of us m8 ... that is .. if math holds ^^
