The Scooby got out-gripped because its Japanese, and the japs haven't yet reaslied torque is as important, if not moreso, than horsepower.bashderq wrote:If thats always true, a Subaru WRX STi would not have been out-gripped by a Clio Cup![]()

It doesn't really work like that. A Hyundai Excel with fat tyres would have lots of grip, but it would still handle like crap. The Gravedigger wrote:Not exactly.... handling is dependant upon better grip
From what I can work out, the Clio handles well when cornering hard at a constant speed, because it has good suspension etc. However when the time comes to put the power down and exit the corner, the other cars you mentioned would kick the Clio's bumbum.
boganbusman wrote:Erm, no. AWD is much more effective than that. As the saying goes, four wheel drive equals four wheel grip.bashderq wrote:Not always true. Grip is mainly determined by how well the chassis has been tuned. First get the weight distribution and chassis geometry right, and then the tyre, springs and dampers settings correct. Only after all this does AWD come into the equation to optimise the handling.xHaZxMaTx wrote:Maybe, but with AWD you are less likely to crash in the first place.-->
AWD increases the contact patch with the road and helps oversteer at corner exit, at the expense of understeer at entry. With even torque going to both front wheels and the wheels turning at the same speed, it doesn't turn in as well as a free-wheeling RWD. The only way around it is to have about a 90/10 rear/front torque split, which means it almost may as well not be there (F1 cars are RWD and just use really fat tires for this reason).

Drewb99, I think you're an alright guy, and usually you seem pretty sensible.Drewb99 wrote:AWD increases the contact patch with the road and helps oversteer at corner exit, at the expense of understeer at entry. But what your just posted makes no sense whatsoever. I'm not even going to try to explain why all that is wrong.
Edit: BTW, I think this discussion should be moved into TECH TALK, if you wish to continue . . .

Considering the fact that Americans didn't even design the car....
The Camaro was designed by a couple of Holden's boys, which is why there's a (lame) speculation that this will be what the next Monaro will look like..... if it does I'll shot myself, or other death methods
Actually..... I'll casterate the Holden bunch that decided to sell this off as the Monaro
