Man, i tried U2 in hood view and it wuz awesome! I was going to use my steering wheel but it gave out completely last night. I got the cord stuck in the pedal and didn't realize it and split it in two!
I vote for U2. I like how you can make a drift setup and it felt more real, making it a challenge and was fun for me. In U2 you actually do all the steering work(i.e. countersteering, drift initiation), and had you fight to get your points. In Carbon it feels more of like a hands-off approach with the "auto-countersteer" which made me look like a complete noob(I'd spin from over-correcting and hit walls) and made my brother look like a pro when I first played.

U1 U2 's drifting mode like slide in the road, don't require high speed (what drifting needs)
Carbon's drifting mode is much like real drift (maintain ur speed when cornering) , higher speed, higher score, i go 4 Carbon

U1 drifting was better that U2 because it was a lot heavier. You couldn't see how good the opponents are. You had to always do your best. Carbon drifting is visualy better, but easy as walk in the park.
i like U2 the best because of the barley limited tuning setup. i spent over 3 hours with my corolla on the test track tuning it up when i dug out the game this morning after having forgot about it.
but i cant judge really, seems i havnt had anything to do with carbon.
U2 for me, though I can't remember a big difference to U1 (then again, haven't played that in a while). Carbon is too "automatic"; just go fast and turn into a curve and it drifts, what's the fun in that?!
Undergound 2 has a feel of speed and angle. I also think the general drift physics give you more of a challenge of keeping you fully tuned evo drifting around a canyon.
I say Underground 2. It pays a lot of attention to the angle, which I like, and you can actually see your opponents drift, instead of watch their scores randomly increase to a couple of points above yours at the end of the race....
The original NFS Underground. It is the one who introduced Drag and Drift and it did both very well. After that, it was pretty much the same or went downhill.
