"Free Roam" option missing from menu - help!

I've created my profile and started the career. I *think* you're supposed to start a race, then pull up the menu and choose "resume in free roam" or something like that. The only resume option is "Resume Race". I can't find Roam anywhere in the menu system. What am I doing wrong here?? I'm starting to feel stupid.

Under options, I've tried changing the Free Roam maps as Static and Rotate, but still nothing.

If you've just started a savegame, then there will be a few races you will have to endure before you can get access to Free Roam. Once you get your garage, you'll be able to access Free Roam. You're just going to have to wait for that.
