The computer hate thread...
What makes you want to take a pencil, put it down, turn around and drive a sledge hammer into your noisy, loud, warm, hungry box they call a computer?

Re: The computer hate thread...
I used to hate computers, but after building my own and learning how to keep it clean, I'm quite happy with how it's going.
My current PC has never crashed or given me any sort of frustration.
I'm also rather comfortable with Windows XP. I don't get why people complain about it all the time.
The root of almost all problems is software related. If you replace all of your commonly used apps with freeware/open-source stuff, I think you will see a great improvement. This is what keeps my computer trouble-free.
For instance, switching from MSN to trill was a great idea.
I still hate Macs, however. My 2 years in senior high working with iMacs was a nightmare. Every day, without fail, they would crash or lock up or lose your files or some other annoying thing. And the ergonomics are horrible.

Re: The computer hate thread...
Winamp + Media Player Classic = Win.
Re: The computer hate thread...
Media player classic is good... does the job. I use WMP because of the library though... winamp, was a bit less convenient and buggy for me. I find Media Player 11 very stable.

Re: The computer hate thread...
I love my computer lol. Winamp is good, but WMP is a lot easier to get the music to, it auto scans so the music automatically gets to the libary when you get it

Re: The computer hate thread...
I tried WinAmp, but I didn't really care for it. Guess I'm just used to WMP, and it never gives me any problems, so why not use it? That's WMP10, by the way; don't care for 11.

Re: The computer hate thread...
I bought my HP because I thought it was quite possibly the best value laptop I could find. Unfortunately (contrary to what I said in NFS General lol), Vista is a piece of crap, and from what I've heard I can't do anything about it without formatting the hard drive, which means I have to download all of my games, music etc. again... Lucky we got a 500GB hard drive, but unfortunately with my nearly full C Drive that's going to be half full if I do use it. Vista, without fail, makes my computer lock up if left for more than 10 minutes unattended and not put into hibernate, and I know it's Vista because the EXACT same thing happens to my dad's Acer, while my sister's Toshi Satellite and the main computer run fine, if a little bit slow. Internet Explorer I found yesterday does not work properly, if I navigate from Google (homepage) is runs extremely slow, then 3 or 4 ads come up and the page I want to go to doesn't even load, so as I type I'm using Safari PC (lol). The internet thing isn't that bad, because Safari is actually quicker loading pages than Explorer ever was anyway.
I still like the HP though

Re: The computer hate thread...
You can't do anything about Vista unless you format the harddrive? I'm guessing getting rid of it, but that doesn't need formatting your drive, that'd only require a C partition format. Games and music are left on your other partition, as any properly set up PC or laptop should have atleast 2 partitions.Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:I bought my HP because I thought it was quite possibly the best value laptop I could find. Not sure why it'd lock your computer up though. Vague problem, I don't have it. Vista is fine here. So is IE.

Re: The computer hate thread...
I truthfully have lost most faith in laptop... actually, I hate all mass-produced computers. Why? Because they're nothing but overpriced, slow, un-stable pieces of crap. The only computer I really like is my desktop, or any other PC built by me, or any other custom-rig owner/builder. Hell, I don't even trust my laptop nearly as much now, it's only been about 6 month's and it's got problems off the a-wall. I'd say I'll NEVER buy another Brand-name computer, but I don't really see surviving without a laptop anymore, lol.
It's almost like a car, (well, a used car.) Most used cars will end up being crap, unless you really feel like maintaining them, which is why I'll probably end up with an entirely different set-up in whatever my 2nd car is...
Sure, you have to spend many long days tuning it, and will also probably have to go through many different set-ups, you you do the same thing when you get a custom PC running for the first time as well. If I build a PC for someone, I normally don't even give it out until a week or so after it's in and assembled. People who have sold me their old computers for new ones built by me, say it was one of teh best decisions they've made in a while. They run with a $500-600 min, but you get alot more power, reliability, and service from me than with a company with millions of people.

Re: The computer hate thread...
Don't know the specifics. That's just what I had heard. Something about a backdoor to your computer or something. I don't remember.xHaZxMaTx wrote:Such as...?

Anyway, as long as I maintain my computer, malware will be kept to a minimum. I don't use any file-share programs, I'd like to think I'm smart enough to not visit any obviously malicious websites and the like, and if my computer starts acting up, it's usually an easy fix. Hell, I don't even have any anti-virus software on my computer, and - as far as I know - I've been malware free since the last time I had to reformat my hard drive, which has been... probably over a year, now.
Re: The computer hate thread...
If you visit porn sites often, install and delete programs without clearing registries, never empty recycle bin, and have millions on P2P softwarez on your pc, turn off your pc before a full power down, never defragged a hard disk in your life, think the iPod is still a nifty innovation, and LOVE MACS!!!!!...
Then you my friend, just may be a moron!
No reason to hate the pc, just the pc user.

Re: The computer hate thread...
I'd never go mass produced... why? Well, last year, my current 3 year old PC could out-perform $2000 PCs in catalogs. (3.2ghz P4 HT vs some random Pentium D @3ghz (heat problems I think... and I don't remember them benchmarking that well), 7600GT vs 7100GS, 600GB vs 320gb, both had 1gb RAM. So, mine could run games well.... the other was quite useless for the money.I hate all mass-produced computers. Why? Because they're nothing but overpriced, slow, un-stable pieces of crap.
@Korge: ...and if your comp still screws up if you don't do any of those things? Uninstall Norton! 39 days of subscription left... >_< Hurry up.

Re: The computer hate thread...
just hate the fact my computer keeps freezing on me...still trying to find the problem
Re: The computer hate thread...
I'm not saying if you do those things, you're going to get a virus. Just saying that since I don't do them, it's even less likely that my computer(s) could, uhh... contract a virus.boganbusman wrote:I use file share programs all the time, I visit malicious websites, and don't have any anti-virus either.

Re: The computer hate thread...
I used to be a computer fan or whatever you would call that - I kept upgrading the pc to be able to run the latest games, kept trying the newest software, etc. etc. But then slowly I lost most interest in messing around with it, bought a console for gaming and with having 5 computers to maintain (1 personal laptop, 1 work laptop, 1 personal gaming computer, 2 workplace machineS) I now consider them purely as tools. I install only the programs I need, no more messing around and experimenting with things which in the end just waste your time, which you could've spent better than in front of the computer screen (like in front of the tv for example).
I must say however that I'm quite satisfied with XP's performance. There's practically no slowdowns or freezing (even on the machine with just 1GB of ram). There still comes a day every now and then when I want to throw the damned thing out of the window, but I'm even used to that now as I know the home gaming computer has some hardware issues.
