Wow, ur setup is quite similar to mine. Why not go for DDR2-1066 PC8500 RAM? ..its not very pricey, than what ur getting, and its worth the buck, unless u plan to overclock ur PC-6400

And that processor is really awesome, It was still very stable with at 3.4 Ghz, with stock cooling and the temps werent that high either. I mite try running it up all the way to 3.8 Ghz when i have better cooling at hand.. :P but i run it at 3.33 Ghz for now, and that 6MB Cache makes for a big improvement.

Just a quick question, how is this setup, except from the gpx card costing you?

And that's a problem? Do you know how often my parents would give me $1,600? Never.
Good lord, I can't even get them to buy me a graphics card because of my good grades!

Anyway, yeah, I'd try looking into ATi before you take that 260. It's a good card, but you'll probably be able to get more for your money with ATi.

1.6k here isn't that expensive. In fact thats a couple hundred cheaper than what I paid for my laptop and my laptop has lower specs.

But you paid for it.
The point here was that he didn't pay for the thing.
And 1,6k (or 2k, for that matter) for a gift is a lot.
The clearly most expensive gift I ever got from my parents was worth around 400€ and it was a combined gift for two things.

Well when I say I paid for it, I actually only paid 600 of the 1800 asking price. Then again there was the 2 grand motorcycle which I didn't pay for, the PS3 which I only paid half of, my R31 which my dad only wanted 1000 for when he actually paid 3500....you get my drift.

Where the hell did you order from, that was f*cking fast.

To design, order, wait for shipping, and build a computer takes atleast a week and a half normally, and it takes a day or two to get it optimized. =/

www.auspcmarket.com.au

Good site, quick, good communication. Moderate Price. Free Shipping + Assemble (Not really free, just boasted price of their parts, but oh well #-o )

Since when? Once you have the parts, building a computer only takes about a day, or two if you're being lazy.
Then shipping (within the same country) only takes a few days at most.

Oh, you can have the computer together in about three hours once you get good at it. It's mainly trying to get the most bang for your buck, and TRYING to stay in your customer's budget. Especially as you have to take off $100-200 just for software, so if you're on, say, a $500 budget, that's hard to work with. I'd say it take's 3-5 days to design, another 3-5 to ship, 1 day to build, and 2 to set up and optimize the OS for that specific design.

Yeah, but a) laptops are always going to be more expensive than a desktop if you want the same specs and b) $1600 is a lot for a gift. Just a question; $AUD or $US?

He lives in Sydney...

And also that first point isn't necessarily true. For 1500 you can get a HP DV5 series with 4GB ram, 2.5GHz, and NVid 9600GT GFX...and it also depends on what you're using it for. Mine would probably be only worth 1000 if that and it runs the games I want to play perfectly. Halo runs at a constant 60fps, Halo 2 runs at 30 but only because I can't change that.

Whaaaat?! I think you have vSync on. I run Halo 2 at a 100-120 fps, check if it's on and if not there go in your nVidia console/CCC and force it off.
