Actually from memory the Cup Car is the racing version of the RSi.

The RSi was a homiligation built for competition use; the road going varient is basically a stock beetle interior (abeit with R32 recaros) inside a Beetle Cup chassis. They all came with the VR6 24v motor, variable Haldex AWD and the Cup bodykit, the race prepped ones only differed in the exhaust, wheels and interior. Lots of the cups that were sold as production cars have been converted to racers, including one owned by a guy I vaguely know who runs it in the VW Cup (for which if, I remember rightly, it was built for).
