Mass Effect 2 question...

Kay yesterday I finished Mass Effect 2 for the 9th time (3rd time on Insane). It's not relevant I'm just showing off.
WARNING: Spoilers bellow.
I have 2 questions relating to the game... 1st thing, what exactly triggers the abduction of the team near the end of the game? Every single time I finished the game I left the Reaper IFF collection and Legion's loyalty mission for the end, and after I finished these when I selected the Star Map the abduction was triggered.
I'm asking cause I saw people doing other recruitment missions with Legion in their team, Tali's missions are especially interesting.
2nd question, the last time I finished the game was the only time I had imported a ME1 save game (downloaded, not mine). It was also the 1st time one of my team mates died when Joker said ''All survivors on board we're just waiting for you'' (Mordin). Why? I have NO IDEA. I did everything, and also assigned the classes just like in every other saved games:
-Vents, Tech Expert: Legion
-Team Leader: Miranda
-Biotic: Samara / Morinth
-Team escort: Thane / Garrus, no difference
-Joined in final battle: Miranda and Jacob
I also take Zaeed and Grunt with me in battle. Now, I re-loaded the save game and assigned Mordin to take the team to the Normandy and nobody else died. But I just don't understand why he died in the 1st place...
(btw how the hell did Cerberus get his body back from the Collector base lol)
