the same thing happens in any game... its generally because the collision "box" around the track isnt thick enough... imagine two boxes made of paper, but their positions only get updated every half second (much much much faster in the game but this is just an example)
If you are travelling very fast, or just plain get lucky (i'm sure lower system performance will contribute to this, as it would have less time to do collision checks) you can travel through the wall by having the speed high enough to have the edges of the paper box go past eachother without the update finding a collision, after which your free and you can drive straight throught he wall because it only checks the "outside" of the box for collision.
This could be fixed by adding "thicker" collision boxes, but it would cost system performance greatly i'd imagine, or add warp zones outside of the track that would reset you automaticailly but noone would like that... its a fairly minor bug that i've encountered once normally playing, several times travelling at 300 mph with a trainer lol
